What are the chances this guy is even that good?

As a pitcher: pretty good

As a hitter: not so good

How many of these guys live up to the hype? Not many. I like this kid because he is stupidly passing up on millions to prove he's a stud today instead of waiting 2 years.

We see the same thing with the Cubans.

The less these executives see of a player, the more they seem to like them which is completely counterintuitive to the analytics age. I guess they are as susceptible as everyone else to wanting to believe in a myth

Once there is film on him, it will take about a year or 2 and he becomes average or below average. I just wanted him to be the WhiteSox average pitcher.

Darvish was pretty damn good before he blew out.

Sources: Shohei Ohtani is done interviewing the seven finalists to sign him. His last meeting was actually Tuesday night with the San Diego Padres. Next, presumably, will be his decision. Timetable is not clear yet, but it could well be soon.

Yep..and this two way player shit is nonsense...he will earn his keep as a pitcher, of course according to the numbers he's not as good as Darvish and Tananka in Japan....so the hype around this guy is ridiculous.

Looks like it the Angels. Didn't see that one coming.

It's a great get for them. They sure as hell can use him.

Makes sense on both sides

He gets to play in a big market without much pressure.

He can help that team.

On MLB Radio the talking heads were saying that the Angels are still something silly like $40M under the cap. One talking head was suggesting that they should go for both Moustakas and Lynn, the other was sort of leaning toward just going for Jake.

It seems like the under on w/l for the A's is going to be a good bet this year.

Billy Eppler has done a hell of a job in the short time he’s been there. He stole Simmons and Upton from the Braves and Tigers and he signed a couple of the wayward Braves prospects and now he snags Ohtani. Dude’s doin some work.

No Upton will ever play on a championship team.

White Sox ever had an Asian player?

At least Theo tried. I had no idea if it would work out. Don't those Asians play with smaller balls?

You couldn't come up with at least Shingo Takatsu and Tadahito Iguchi off the top of your head?

Kosuke Fukudome OF Chicago Cubs (2008–2011) Cleveland Indians (2011) Chicago White Sox (2012)

MLB Network is showing a 2014 game Ohtani threw against a MLB all star team. He struck out Morneau and Longoria to end the 1st. Threw two high fastballs right by Longoria.

and he dropped in two slow nose to toes curveballs to start off Zobrist then finished him off with a nasty splitty. At that time he was 20 years old

Partially torn UCL.....nice. I thought his statement about getting the PRP treatments as a purely preventative measure was fishy.
