No one should be surprised about the return. Who wants a 300M contract on their books for 10 years and without the ability to deal him with that no trade clause? The Yanks will be fun to watch but I also see Stanton going 0 for a series too in the post season. He can be pitched to.

This move makes sense for NY because he will sell tickets and keep their TV ratings high.

As for Cubs, no way. His glove is sub par at best: Jorge Soler II defense.

As for Castro, he must be on suicide watch. From the penthouse to the outhouse although Jeter will move him along pretty quickly.

As for Jeter (the guy who fired a scout with cancer) he is no longer Mr. Squeaky Clean. His rep now is that of a prick. Oh well.

This all feels a bit...fishy...to me.

The Giants/Cardinals bidding war is reported as nearly a done deal. Respected people saying it's be a shock if he went elsewhere. Then within 24 hours those deals fall apart and Stanton is gifted the Yankees for almost nothing.

I get the feeling they knew Stanton would veto those trades, but couldn't be seen going straight to the Yankees for Jeter bias reason. So they had this week long charade to cover their ass and once they felt like enough avenues were "explored" they could do what they wanted to all along.

It just came together way too quickly. A $270m deal. I think is a small chance SF or Stl file a grievance and perhaps get the deal axed by the league. Maybe not, but could an interesting week if one of these reporters takes this shit personal and decides to dig around.

Shades of the Alex Rodriguez derby suddenly ending with him going to the Yankees for just Alfonso Soriano.

How? Stanton has a no-trade clause. He doesn't want to play in front of a bunch of racist fans in St. Louis, or pay an ungodly and ever-increasing amount of state sales tax in California unless it's for the Dodgers. Jeter told those teams "hey, you want to try and convince him, great let's make a deal."

Theo probably told Jeter Heyward to figure out a third team which would take Heyward's contract and get him to waive the NTC, and hung up on him.

Stanton's contract is worse than Pujols' contract. But the Yankees can afford to eat the last five years of it. Hell, they're paying A-Rod $27M not to play this year.

I’m with RFDC that I love the Cardinals fans being pissed off over being spurned .

What happened I think was they had 2 deals ready to go for Stanton and he said fuck them. Then Jeter was like no fuck you, and just wanted to get rid of his ass wherever he wanted to go. If the Dodgers offered a bag of chips for Stanton and were ok with taking most of his contract he would have made the deal. But the Yankees came thru with pretty much the same thing and Stanton changed his mind about playing in NY.

I dont' think he wanted to go to STL. He seems like the type of guy who needs a city to party in. STL maybe too small town for him. And the Giants, screw that. His HR's would be cut in half at that ballpark.

Agreed. Moncada, Abreu, Avi, Machado, Robert will be the Latin Murderer's Row.

They'll regret not trading A-brew

First baseman are all replaceable

I don’t think Jerry would ever approve a $350M contract.

For a taxpayer funded stadium, maybe.

The Mets really need a 2B. Maybe the Fish can flip Castro and his $22M cost to the Mets for a catered clubhouse dinner and a #3 starter in A ball, and Starlin won't even have to move.

I'm just so glad the Marlins are under new ownership so they can stop trading elite players to large markets for next to nothing.
