Outside of special circumstances teams will not draw max outside of winning windows. Additionally the idea of basing your model on season ticket sales is about done. Corps are done being ripped off and may lose tax breaks and regular fans either can’t afford or don’t have their me for them.

I'm going to a lot of games this year, but most of them are out of town games with one of my cousins. Our deal is that I pick up the hotel costs using loyalty points, he picks up the tickets.

If I'm going to games myself, I have a $50 limit all-in for big league games and $35 for minor league games - ticket in the lower bowl, parking, food. Which is why I'm going to more White Sox home games this year and not Cubs home games - shitty teams have cheaper tickets on Stubhub. That's what a pleasant evening of drinking, wasting money at the OTB, etc. would cost me.

At the park, I try to stick with one kind of local sandwich or plate, a bottomless soft drink for Diet Coke/Pepsi, and some kind of ice cream (or if I have a mini of bourbon with me, a lemon chill. At the end of the day, ballpark food is Sportservice or Delaware North or Levy commissary, which makes it about equal with Chili's.

At Wrigley, I eat nothing as the food is shit. I bring a small bag with home-mixed trail mix using ingredients from Trader Joe's, and maybe a venison stick from Ream's out in Elburn.

I don't mind letting the kids spend some cash here since everything is so much cheaper. Even the goofy raffles they have for a dollar are worth it. My kids hate sports, though, so we only go together when we are on vacation.

We’ve moved to primarily taking the kids to minor league games as it’s the only way to go and not have it cost you a car payment for the evening. That new ballpark in Rosemont is great. Concessions are still an issue though since Levy handles them and the prices are just as bad as the MLB parks.

Sox game are still $7, right? You can still park up on 31st and Canal for free, right? I get that concessions are ludicrous but you know you can go 3 hours without eating you'll live.

Yes, $7. Not sure about Canal, but State St south of 37th still has plenty of free parking.

I have never not been able to find free parking when I want it. I usually park at about 36th just east of state. There is a public school there so plenty of street parking during the summer.

I now have a business vendor that lives in the neighborhood who gives me a residential parking pass so I usually park at the fire and former police stations at 35th and Lowe.

Bernstein says "Who has time to go to a game?" How is this different than 10 years ago? Didn't parents in their 30s and 40s then have just as much to do and the same amount of free time? The bigger question is what are the demographics of fans and how has that changed. Personally, I went to a lot of games in my 20s when my friends and I did not have kids. Are 20-something year olds not going to games like in the past? While cost is definitely a factor, games were never cheap.

I am only guessing but I think we would be very surprised how few 20-30 year olds are going to games. And when they do it’s likely a once a year thing like going to six Flags. Some teams will be outliers in certain areas aka Cubs but rare.

Totally agree. I have Schaumburg and Kane county around me. I did go with a friend to see Kopech pitch down in Indy at the AAA stadium, very affordable.

I'm free of work travel for the next three weeks, so I decided that I'd like to go see one of the evening DBacks@Cubs tilts in a week and a half. Cheapest terrace box ticket on Stubhub not in Section 201 is $73. I guess nobody's going.

So instead, I picked up a Royals @ White Sox ticket for the following Tuesday night for $11 for the RF corner (109, row 33), which is cheaper than going to see the independent league team in Rosemont. That'll be my 8th game in total this season, which is about my average.

When I move to North Carolina next year, I'll probably pick up Durham Bulls half-season tickets for 2020, in 2018 they are $342/seat for terrace between the bases for 36 games, and I know people at Duke Medical where I can donate tickets for games I can't make.
