When did this start and who started it?

When a guy hits a walk off HR, around third he throws his helmet up in the air, jumps on the plate, gets beat up by his teammates, and gets a shower of gatorade or water.

I dont remember this ritual in the 80s/90s and even 2000s.

When did it start? Like 10 years ago maybe? And who started it?

I don't remember Fisk throwing his hat in the air. I remember he was trying to dodge people around third.

I thought I recently heard the helmet throw has to do with the guys getting hurt in the mob if they wore it all the way to the plate.

Easy solution. Throw it at a teammate instead.

The Hawk doesn't like this because it ruins the sanctity of the game. He prefers everyone go about their business like they did when he was a kid...you know, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, etc.

Those guys celebrated a walk off Home Run by lynching a black man.

This is probably the best walk-off celebration of all time.

I don't think it was a walk-off, but the best celebration was the one where Cesar Izturis was rubbing a bat under his teammates crotch. Forget the details of who and where....just remember it being hysterical.

the Fielder/Braun era Brewers also pioneered the stand at home plate and do a 3 minute hand-shake routine with the on-deck hitter post home run.
