I don't see that happening at all. They won't even sniff a World Series so I hope he enjoys that $$$.

They might not, but how the hell are any of us to know what the league will be like in 2030?

They'll be good for a while.

I predict:
They will win a World Series in the next three years.
Arietta makes the all star team this year.
Tatis is ROY

Arietta is basically done unless he goes on the Roger Clemens diet.

Done?

If you mean he wont regain the superhuman form of his 2015, ok, but he is still a very solid starting pitcher.

He is a very average starting pitcher. Not an all-star.

Objective look at the stats says he was above average last year.

You a W/L guy, BC?

I am expecting the Roger Clemens diet with the excuse of " I didn't know that was in the kale juice."

What does he have to lose? He is not going into the hall of fame without a couple more Clemens type years.

Between increased team equity, sales, etc...Harper has probably already paid for 1/2 of himself. The benefits of your baseball team not being owned by a 'Hebe.

Jake already calling him out . Starting to believe that maybe Harper ain’t all that and a bag of chips. Though maybe Jake needs a douchebag of the week . Isn’t this essentially what Montero said about the pitchers not helping him throw out runners by not holding them on well enough ?

Maybe but his overall point is correct . Harper needs to be in the game as often as possible not getting thrown out for arguing calls. Arrieta won 2 World Series games and a couple other playoff games so his word should carry some weight.

I agree that his words should carry some weight. They would carry much more weight if he went up to Harper in private and looked him right in the eye and said these things. That is what a true leader would do.

Saying that to the press is a total douche move. I'd argue Arrieta is the piece of this teammate in this instance, not Harper. By saying that that Phillies "weren't ready to play" at 8:45 is also throwing Gabe Kapler and the rest of the coaching staff under the bus.

Also, the Mets are 12-10. Not exactly a World Series contender, but not the O's or Marlins either.

Sure. And he's not wrong, but this seems to have become his M.O. lately. Go to the media and complain about teammates.

That usually doesn't work out well.

I'm sure he was asked a question and he answered honestly, no problem with Jake here.

Arrieta should keep that behind closed doors, but that doesn't change the fact that Harper sucks and was grossly overpaid.

For the most part, I agree with this, but its not relevant to this discussion.

I don't believe in the theory that athletes have to be 100% honest with the media, though I don't complain if they are. I do think his teammates have a right to be pissed off at him for this level of "honesty." Be a man and tell them directly.

Plus his response sounded self-centered. Me, me, me.

Still love Arrieta, though.

Well I don't  I think he has always been a bag but he was your bag. I think we forget that nearly all of these guys that were the greatest at everything from their early teens on are bags in one way or another.

Nobody said you have to be 100% honest with the media all the time, what he said is true.. I'm sure grown men can handle it. You guys are nuts to think Harper sucks.. he'll be at 40-120 by seasons end.. probably be in the top 5 in walks too. The guy gets on base, hits for power and puts asses in the seats.. overpaid? GTFO here.

Thats not the case with Arreita though. He was awful with the O's and on his way back to the minors or out of baseball completely. Then he came to the Cubs and suddenly threw like a hall of famer. Must have been something in the water...

Or changed his delivery back to his normal delivery.

I'm sure the delivery change smoothed out the rough edges that the Flintsone vitamins couldn't take care of.
