1. Dick Allen- three unbelievable years with the Sox before he wore out his welcome.
2. Frank Thomas- fans had high expectations and he delivered.
3. Bill Madlock- a hitting machine with the Cubs that were too cheap to pay him. Replaced him with banjo hitter Steve Ontiveros
4. Billy Williams- tough call between him , Banks , and , Santo.
5. Bill Buckner- Numbers don't show the true great hitter he was. Didn't walk much.

Yup. Frank basically matched those 3 years of dick Allen the entire 16 years he was on the Sox.

Thomas did it in the midst of the steroid era. We'll never know for sure if he was clean. But, Allen was clean of PEDs.

What? Thomas's 2000 MVP season alone saw him put up over half the numbers Dick Allen did over three seasons.

Frank was the best hitter Chicago has ever seen. It’s not even close .

That's idiotic. Better to say that he did it in an era of smaller stadiums, but even that doesn't matter, because home runs weren't necessarily a priority for Frank.

Jose Conseco said steroids provide strength, healing, and not getting fatigued. Steroids weren't used strictly for home runs.

Jose Canseco also shot his own finger off while trying to clean a gun. Do you want to really rely on what that idiot says to be factual?

Frank was anti-steroids. He complained about them his entire career. He knew he was losing accolades to the juicers. He was also hurt a lot after his eighth season and didn't seem to get better in a hurry.

Tough to say. How many seasons minimum? Albert Belle for that one year comes to mind.

He was pretty damn fierce, but so many garbage-time numbers. With the Sox, at least.

I'm putting Sandberg on the list for his better years. Had some down years when his wife was getting DP'd by teammates and when he had his wrist busted.

these lists aren't that good considering we're talking about 80 years or so of baseball seasons.

 That's twice I've seen Derrek Lee in this thread. Was he even the best hitter on his team during any one stretch?

I think his 2005 season was the most notable one during his time here. Probably doesn't compare to the best of Frank Thomas's stuff but I didn't see that.

I never said Lee was some scrub. I know he was a pretty good hitter and had himself a very nice career. I'm just not sure he was a "best of" for a Cubs hitter's list. Were Ramirez and Soriano better than him most of the time?

Soriano had a better WAR during two of the three seasons they were teammates.
