LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Fourteen men were arrested over the weekend in a Liberty Township human trafficking operation.

One of the men arrested, in what is being called “John Sting,” was Major League Baseball umpire Brian O’Nora.

It’s really annoying when they arrest the Johns because they are so terrible at stopping actual human trafficking.

Well he actually had his charges dropped.

The Asian women involved are apparently still in trouble.

We lose a lot of rights when we look the other way when it doesn't affect our lives or it isn't a cause we agree with.

Headlines that call sex stings "human trafficking" really miss the point. Consensual sex between adults, even if one party is paying for it, shouldn't be illegal. All it does is drive the practice further underground and actually makes it harder to catch true human traffickers.

The actions of the authorities who worked this case shouldn't be forgotten. Ultimately, they illegally spied on citizens, spent years of police time and public resources, possibly ruined multiple lives, and went on a hero's publicity campaign while saving no one and stealing about $45,000 from a few immigrant sex workers.
