That video did nothing but confirm that Joakim Noah was right.

The nod to the time they lit a body of water on fire seemed an odd inclusion.

Had this discussion with a guy at work. Neither of us thought the name was great, but within a week everyone will just call the the “Guards”.

As in: “Going to the Guards game tonight want to join..”

That’s actually not that bad.

I think people will still call them the Indians or the Tribe.

But that logo is cheesy. I didn't know that it's supposed to be a split finger fastball.

That's a reach.

It looks like the logo for a service station outside of Fort Wayne in 1961.

They'd have been better off if they tied it into the movies instead of the fucking bridge.

That's not going to work. Those movies are already considered "problematic" and they'd just have to change it again in a few years.

Its too bad they couldn't tie something in with 10 Cent Beer Night their 1974 beer riot. I think most of their fan base take a lot of pride in the way they stepped up to Billy Martin's Texas Rangers.

Whatever they call Jacobs Field is getting pretty old by now. Give it another 15 years and they'll just move and change the name then.

This is from a show I listen to sometimes. I think its pretty interesting because I don't think anyone has brought it up with the name changes. So if you want to wear your Sean Taylor throwback are you getting escorted out of the stadium?

Stadium corporate sponsor names are what media has to, or dorks like Les use. Maybe unless it's the first stadium's name, or catchy. Les keeps up with every sponsor stadium name, and histories to a T. But he can't have an intelligent sports conversation?

Joe Robbie is the worst I've found for changing names.

Name Duration
Joe Robbie Stadium August 16, 1987 – August 25, 1996
Pro Player Park August 26, 1996 – September 9, 1996
Pro Player Stadium September 10, 1996 – January 9, 2005
Dolphins Stadium January 10, 2005 – April 7, 2006
Dolphin Stadium April 8, 2006 – May 7, 2009
Land Shark Stadium May 8, 2009 – January 5, 2010
Dolphin Stadium January 6, 2010 – January 19, 2010
Sun Life Stadium January 20, 2010 – January 31, 2016
New Miami Stadium February 1, 2016 – August 16, 2016
Hard Rock Stadium August 17, 2016–present

It'd be funny if they went back to Indians after this whole culture war dies down, but most likely they just move to Nashville.

When I lived in Baltimore in the early 2000s the Redskins name was a big deal. The Post was running editorials about it all the time. The Post decided to do a poll where they went out and polled Native Americans about the name and the Native Americans supported the name which surprised The Post. I think it was like 75 or 80 percent...maybe even higher. Mom has a ranch in the Mount Shasta area of Northern California. A real Native American and his son takes care of our horses and raise some cattle with us. These are real Native Americans from the Karuk tribe that live on the reservation. They watch football and like the 49ers and had no problem with Redskins. I didn't ask them about the Cleveland Indians but if they're cool with Redskins I'm sure Indians doesn't bother them. I will see them in September and I will ask what they think of all this.

I wonder if they're even asking real Native Americans what they think and they aren't asking people who identify as Native American instead. I saw a clip from Cleveland news getting reaction from "Native American Activists" about Guardians and it looked like they talked to a Mexican and 3 white people (who probably claimed Native American ancestry). I was like man...can't you guys find some real Native Americans then I saw there aren't any reservations or recognized tribes in Ohio.

There were Native Americans protesting the Redskins and Indians for years and years. Braves, too. Nobody gave a shit. It took black people rioting about an unrelated issue to get the names changed.

I'm not defending the names by the way...the Chiefs are in the cross hairs and I will take some satisfaction when its their turn.

Let's just make sure real Native Americans are being heard and not people who identify as Native American or are trying to jump on their bandwagon.

They won't. This fight is just for NGOs and well-placed journalists or middle managers.

One of the best Sopranos scenes ever was when Tony had the dust-up with Hasidic Homeboy Jamal Ginsburg, saw a box of Uncle Ben's in the cupboard, and fainted.
