And of course Boston walks it off in the next half inning

bad break but it was the right call.

They woulda lost it anyway due to the 2-run HR.

Credit to the rays though for hanging in there and holding down Boston for 13 innings. That is tough to do in the playoffs.

How else can you score that ? Has to be ground rule double

Yep. I don't recall ever seeing something like that.

What happened?

The guy on the rays hit one over the head of the right fielder it bounced off the wall , hit the right fielder and bounced into the bullpen. The rays had a runner on base that would’ve scored easily had the ball stayed in play

Plus the runner was going on the pitch. He was getting ready to round 3rd base as the ball caromed off the RFer.

No issue on limiting the batter to ground rule double....rule is clear. The problem is there is umpire discretion on where to place the runner on base. He was absolutely going to score and they should have given Tampa the run.

https://www.mlb.com/news/rays-ground-ru ... -explained

“It's item 20 in the manual, which is, balls deflected out of play, which is in reference to official baseball Rule 5.06(b)(4)(H). It says, ‘If a fair ball not in flight is deflected by a fielder and goes out of play, the award is two bases from the time of the pitch.’”

Holbook added: “Once that ball hit the wall, it was no longer in flight. Now the ball bounces off the wall and is deflected out of play off of a fielder. That’s just a ground-rule double. There’s no ‘He would’ve done this, he would’ve done that.’ It’s just flat out in the rule book. It’s a ground-rule double.”

I think that's a misconception...the umps can only award two bases to each runner from the point they started when the ball was put in play, with no discretion unless fan interference is involved.

Tampa had plenty of chances these 2 games. Another bad playoff decision by Cash not to walk the Red Sox hottest hitter

Scherzer down 1-0, has now pitched 6 innings.

See? Whats so hard about leaving a pitcher in the game.

KB with one of 3 hits vs Scherzer. KB and the Cubs were always good at hitting good pitching.

But we didnt want him.

Giants make me jealous.

Why can’t the Cubs ever have a team like this???

Whistler makes a point - Gmen kept their old
Guys and they all have been great and clutch this year offense and defense. Posey - Crawford - Belt

Have you fucking idiots forgotten what the players the Cubs let go have hit in the playoffs and down the stretch the last three or four years?

I'm the biggest Scherzer fan out there, but it was his 0-2 fuckup that cost them the game.

these players were dogged the last 3 years and not treated like the stars they were.

NO OTHER organization woulda done that. The Giants have never done that to Posey/Belt/Crawford. And those aren't even elite names.

$70 million for Rizzo? Im not a Rizzo guy but that is an insult for a guy that led ur squad for 8 years, won a WS, etc.

The players didnt feel wanted. Period. They started realizing that they were just subjects in a big financial picture. Get the most out of em for the cheapest price.

Why do Cub fans not realize this?

If anything, these playoffs have shown that when they feel wanted, and when they feel motivated, they can do great shit.
