Owners have to formally vote early this evening. Free agency probably starts about 8pm, and the first spring training game is in a week. The amount of money to be thrown around in the next 72 hours is going to be crazy.

interesting. who is part of the executive committe? ex players? or suits?

All current players. I dont want to sound mean but what background do these guys have in negotiations, finance, management, etc... Did they take some college courses or what? I mean if I was being represented by these 8 guys I would not be very confident.

IIRC more than half are Boras clients...so that's their qualification.

conflict of interest...what a mess then.....makes sense now. they wanted to reject this deal for their own interests via their agent, not the good of the game.

Well, that's how baseball works. But the players basically told them to go pound sand.

5 of the 8 are Boras clients, and the biggest hang-up with the committee was the extra penalties/"tax" being applied to teams spending way over the "salary cap" (not a cap, but I forget what it's called? luxury tax...) Some might say Boras was actually running the committee, and the everyday players finally said "screw you".

MLB NETWORK has the details. I guess it's a 12 team playoff , not 14.

Good on the other players to tell the greedy players to go away.

I guess I have the image of 'dumb jocks' whenever I see players leading any kind of labor negotiation. So I can see how they setup this up so agents can pretty much be the puppet masters of the committee members.

Playoffs are 1 and 2 get byes (2 best division records). 3v6, 4v5. No reseeding, if 6 beats 3, they play 2.

“Game 163” is eliminated. Will have some sort of List of tiebreakers

Also sounds like free agency and trades can start as soon as deal is officially signed. That's supposed to be about 20 minutes from now. Could be a crazy night

wow that's bullshit. i always liked the drama of a game 163. Tie breakers are shit. Have these teams earn it.

starting next season, fewer division games, and teams will have at least 1 series against every team.

Between the NFL and MLB, they are carrying sports talk through the doldrums.

This deal does nothing to solve the long term labor problems of the league, but it was the best deal available. Therefore, I commend both sides for coming to their senses.

162 games and 12 playoff teams is not sustainable. You can't have a 9 month league. NBA is running into the same problem. Got a bunch of Ferraris running in the Baha 1000.

Surely some free agent movement is going to start happening soon.

Couple other things....

The 3vs6 and 4vs5 playoff series are best of 3. All games hosted by the 3 and 4 seed. Makes for big difference in being the top wildcard team.

For the draft, the top 6 picks are lottery. Worst 3 records have equal chance, with lesser chance from there. All 18 non-playoff team eligible for lottery.

Also, nothing to do with MLB or the labor agreement. Canada won't let unvaccinated people in, so players with no shots can't travel to Toronto. White Sox @ Blue Jays 5/31 - 6/2.

And MLB and MLBPA agreed that players who aren't allowed into Canada lose pay and service time for those games.

Now might be a good time to establish whether the whole world is a shithole or not.
