You wouldn't think that it was this rare.

That's cool I guess.
Shocking it happens less often than a no hitter.

No name for a 3 pitch inning.

I don't think that those are particularly rare, but it's odd how there isn't a name for them.

It's interesting stat. Lots of Cub and former Cub pitchers on that list. It's pretty rare. There are roughly 43,740 half innings played in a season and there are years where it doesn't happen. So I would say less than 1 in 43,740 is pretty long odds.

Not true. It's a stat that is hard to keep a record of unless a paper mentions it.

It's so easy to strike guys out in today's game. They strike themselves out.

I mean, Dylan Cease strikes guys out at a Ryanesque rate. Does anyone find him impressive?

I believe if you took a CFMB member who was young enough and in decent shape and forced him to pitch a full inning against a big league team, he would record at least one strikeout. He might allow twenty runs in between, but one of the outs would likely be a K.

The three-pitch inning is rare partly because it's an unwritten rule that if the first two batters make outs on one pitch, the third batter almost always gets a take sign to give his pitcher a little more rest.
