I'm not sold on CJ Abrams I think he is another Jurickson Profar..I really thought Soto would bring back more.

I thought that the Padres were a small market team? Fuck you Rick Hahn and company.

He brought their top 5 prospects. How many more would you expect?

Two things tip this trade to the Padres side. Gore has an elbow situation and they got rid of Hosmer.

I don't know if you consider Gore, and Abrams prospects they are on the big league roster. Hassel is ranked 20th in MLB's top 100, Wood 88th, good return but alot of teams had the farm to match this or better this.

Similar batters to Soto through age 22 season:
Mike Trout (956.3)
Frank Robinson (955.8 ) *
Bryce Harper (944.3)
Miguel Cabrera (943.8 )
Mickey Mantle (927.9) *
Tony Conigliaro (921.1)
Henry Aaron (918.7) *
Orlando Cepeda (911.5) *
Giancarlo Stanton (909.4)
Ken Griffey Jr. (908.6) *
* - Signifies Hall of Famer

I'm just glad the Cardinals didn't get him, thank God.

It’d be kind of hilarious if Hosmer killed the deal.

Looks like Hassel is a can't miss lefty Vaughn type, and Wood is 6'7" with a 1+ OPS in A ball.

(assuming the deal goes through) the Nats also giving up Bell who's a value rental, and taking on terrible contract, this is actually a pretty awful return for a sure lock 1st ballot HOF'er in Soto. They better hope one of those young players becomes a superstar.

I completely agree with you.

He only has a ten team no trade and he's a Boras client too. I could see a promise that the Nationals DFA Homer immediately, or else the Padres will send him somewhere where he will rot.

hmm....padres don't have much else to give for a contreras and the astros got C vazquez from the red sox; down to the rays and mets. reading the fans' comments from the ny post, mets fans totally sour on any cubs trade due to baez. nido has suddenly turned into a serviceable hitting C, who handles their pitching staff impeccably. just say no to contreras.

still makes sense, a package with contraras and robertson to the mets. looks like the mets' top prospects are not pitchers. going forward - cubs' system seems ok in the OF and the left side of the infield. i'm thinking that mets 1B dominic smith will be involved. cubs are semi-high on 1B mervis and i believe they're looking to dump schwinnie, wisdom and rivas in a heartbeat.

Do the Padres do whatever it takes to not let Soto end up a Dodger?

Would be funny if the Padres threw in a player/prospect to a deal not involving themselves to ensure their rival didn't get someone (if that is even allowed).

Seems the Padres and pushing right now. They're still 22/1 on Bovada and 20/1 at Caesars.

It'll be interesting to see the odds changes if the Padres get Soto and Bell. NL is top heavy with LA, SD, NYM, and Atlanta has helped themselves at the deadline. An interesting Soto angle for San Diego is the idea they keep him through 2023 then flip him either before 2024 or during the season to restock the farm.

9/1 tonight on Bovada now.
