i agree. you're looking at november baseball with potentially 40 degrees and wind. no hitting. mariners looking at the AL big picture and the hurdles to the world series. no way can the mariners compete hitting-wise with the yankees, but that starting staff would be tough in any series. the media loves j-rod, but that pitching staff is good and just got better. they overpaid for a reason, castillo will pitch the rest of this year and next for them.

one of the suitors will definitely overpay for contreras and hopefully for robertson and happ.

Steep price. Mariners are built on pitching and defense, which is a pretty good idea for 2022 playoffs.

That's the first decent return of the trade deadline season. The crime of it is, if the guys the Reds got back hit their potential, the Reds are just going to end up trading them like they did Castillo. The NFL managed to set up a system where the Green Bay Packers can compete for talent with the New York Giants. It's a damn shame that baseball can't do the same.

a minor shuffle with cubs P martin for the dodgers' mckinstry. if happ gets traded - looking for left hitting mckinstry to be the new clint frazier for 2 seasons or so, spelling or maybe even platooning (if he hits) with LF velazquez. velazquez looking more and more confident hitting.

Lot of buzz about Rodon going to Yanks or Twins. If Twins get him division is over. If Yanks get him, they are solid favorites to win it all. Montas might go to who doesn't get Rodon.

Not signing Rodon looks to be a fail on Hahn's part. Another manifestation of a bad training staff/medical team.

Yeah, that contract would have been worth the game.

Some of the mlb Twitter clowns saying the White Sox inquired about Otani. The thing the White Sox are best at is feeding the media bullshit.

Would love to see what they consider a "serious" offer.

Cubs trading Effross one of MLB top stats relievers who's under team control through '27 bit of a surprise.

The word is Padres, Dodgers, or the Cardinals. And the other word is that the Padres didn't give up any prospects in the Hader deal that were and still on the table in the offer for Soto. Do the Padres do whatever it takes to not let Soto end up a Dodger?

Would be funny if the Padres threw in a player/prospect to a deal not involving themselves to ensure their rival didn't get someone (if that is even allowed).

From ESPN today. A true hero!

(Trey) Mancini has been a bright spot as the Orioles have gone through a difficult rebuild. He earned Comeback Player of the Year honors in the American League last year after missing the 2020 season to be treated for Stage 3 colon cancer.

yankees must have been eyeballing effross and had him on a list in case of emergencies. king blew up his elbow and emergency enough. i agree, maybe the cubs could have haggled since the yanks likely approached the cubs - but the cubs got someone who was arguably the best pitcher in the yankees system.

Seems the Padres and pushing right now. They're still 22/1 on Bovada and 20/1 at Caesars.

Tatis’ money is a lot further out than I realized. My first thought when the Soto stuff came up was that they’d have three guys accounting for $100m+ of payroll.

Tatis isn’t too bad until the Machado money is about gone.

Machado is a helluva player. Plus he shows up to work, which seems to be a skill these days.

It'll be interesting to see the odds changes if the Padres get Soto and Bell. NL is top heavy with LA, SD, NYM, and Atlanta has helped themselves at the deadline. An interesting Soto angle for San Diego is the idea they keep him through 2023 then flip him either before 2024 or during the season to restock the farm.

I think the Cards are using the Sox way, playing like they are involved but have no intention of doing it. They just want to appear to be in on things for their fans.

Pretty stupid can be used instead of " a bit of a surprise"
