That's the first decent return of the trade deadline season. The crime of it is, if the guys the Reds got back hit their potential, the Reds are just going to end up trading them like they did Castillo. The NFL managed to set up a system where the Green Bay Packers can compete for talent with the New York Giants. It's a damn shame that baseball can't do the same.

It'll be interesting to see the odds changes if the Padres get Soto and Bell. NL is top heavy with LA, SD, NYM, and Atlanta has helped themselves at the deadline. An interesting Soto angle for San Diego is the idea they keep him through 2023 then flip him either before 2024 or during the season to restock the farm.

I think the Cards are using the Sox way, playing like they are involved but have no intention of doing it. They just want to appear to be in on things for their fans.
