Co-sign. I wound up loathing that 2004 team. Extremely disappointed…and of course Bruce Levine’s takeaway was “The Cubs had back-to-back winning seasons.”

Agreed. It should also be acknowledged that 2003 Marlins team was LOADED...an amazing team.

But not more loaded than the Yankees. Just out pitched them as I recall.

As a Sox fan, I never laughed harder than when they flopped both years. At the same time I didn't see the arrogance you all are talking about & it seems odd how many Sox fans are still grinding about that. The rest of the baseball world seems ecstatic for Dusty, except this odd little corner.

In the early days, I may have been the only fan who thought Dusty was a good manager. As always, the hate was media and sports radio driven.

The cubs hardly flopped in 2003. They overachieved getting as far as they did. Good starting pitching, a mediocre everyday ineup, thin bullpen.

Again....the NLCS post-game press conferences using your grade school kid on your lap with his toy cars as a shield was quite pathetic.

Clearly Dusty learned and evolved cause this season there is zero to criticize. They won it all. I have no issue with Dusty.

Dusty is a deeply religious and superstitious man. I doubt a 10+ year manager was using his son as a shield. The media made a few post-game interviews seem like he never answered any questions without his son. Then fans ran with it.

I watched it all live. I don't care his intentions...it was in poor taste and ridiculous.

I did as well. I didn't care. The collapse took some life out of me.

The only thing that bothered me was sending his son out as a batboy. Until JT Snow had to save him.

But it's still nowhere near as egregious as the coaches and front office types hiring their unqualified kids as assistants.

Jesse Rogers was recommending articles praising Michael Brantley (on IL since June) how his pep talks and leadership "was huge behind the scenes to get the Astros over the hump to win the world series". Line of bs reminds me of somebody?

Cubs overachieved in the big picture in 2003 but definitely flopped in the NLCS. Up 3-2 with Prior and Wood up next - gotta close it out.

There is no debate otherwise. Dusty could have changed things if he went out to settle his pitcher down, or made a move to the bullpen. Maybe the Cubs win, maybe they don't, but we'll never know.

And THAT, RR, is why MANY people dislike Dusty Baker.
