The Yankees have nobody in their system to trade for him, even for a rental, since they just can't give up Dominguez for a rental of even Shohei for a team that is in last fucking place.

Gleber Torres, ex-White Sox farm hand Ian Hamilton, and their #2 and #3 prospects (a AA catcher and an A ball outfielder which the Angels drafted as a high schooler but went to college). Maybe toss in Isiah Kiner Falafel.

Yeah, that'll do it.

Angels should ask for New York in trade for Shohei Ohtani--the entire state

Even if the Angels are out of it....there is no way they can trade him (to any team) without getting egg on their face, yet alone....getting a proper return in a trade. He's an UFA in 2024...If he has a burning desire to go to another team, I'd bet it happens during the off-season.

This is the time of the year when someone like Ohtani is on the market and we get whatever this year's version is of an over the hill Jim Thome or Griffey Jr.

He could get traded for a Jackson Holiday and three pre-arb guys already producing as a regular starter in MLB. But that's about it.

Arte Moreno should leverage Japanese culture and "face," do a reverse Andre Dawson and publicly offer Ohtani a blank check to sign a 10-year extension before August 1. Put it whatever number you think is fair, as a sign of mutual respect. But understand that the bigger the number, the less pieces we can add each year.

If you don't want to come back, just tell the fans that publicly, again as a sign of mutual respect and admiration.

Helluva gambit, from a PR stance at least. Dunno about its efficacy in terms of operating a successful MLB team; but maybe the Angels feel that winning isn't as important as wasting the careers of generational talent over and over.

Ohtani's likely staying on the West Coast, Angels/Dodgers/Giants. Seattle's out. Ohtani doesn't wanna be Dan Bankhead to Ichiro's Jackie. I don't see Ohtani going anywhere in flyover land other than the Cubs or possibly Braves. New York teams or maybe Washington on the East coast. But, yeah, probably he'll go across town to Chavez Ravine.

So he doesn't take the biggest paycheck? Do mlb players still get more money in endorsements, which forces them to big markets even if a smaller team offers them a lot more?

This seems like the hottest player in the history of baseball. He won the world fucking championship. Anywhere he plays he will get the media coverage.

Supposedly in addition to whatever he makes on his own endorsements, he brings in $30M/year in team revenue in international categories not subject to revenue sharing. For context, his salary from the Angels this year is $30M in his last year of arbitration.

Coming out and saying "money is no object" could generate $500M in ancillary revenue for the Angels if he stays.

Baseball is weird. A certain level of spending typically makes you competitive but can’t guarantee anything. Look at the Mets. Fuck, the Sox are spending close to $200m and suck donkey dick.

MLB has this luxury tax system which benefits stars while perversely gutting the middle class like they’re modern day politicians.

I don’t want them to become the NBA but some type of communist arrangement a lá the NFL may benefit the entire sport.

You can't allow arguably the greatest player in MLB history to walk for nothing. You better be sure you can sign him, even with a playoff berth on the table.

Yankees trade for Ohtani
Dodgers acquire Trout
White Sox finally land superstar they've been waiting for: Miguel Cabrera

Scherzer get $43 mil a year. Judge gets $40M a year. Seems to me Ohtani is worth $83M a year.

You also can't let the greatest player in MLB history to walk for shit prospects. (see the Miguel Cabrera trade years ago). PR wise they might be better not trading him, saying they did everything to work an extension and settle for the comp pick if nothing else.

All it proves to me is baseball isn't a sport. It's a game of chance. It's horse racing but worse. Fuck baseball.
