Braves will NOT re-sign Andruw Jones

General manager John Schuerholz said Tuesday he told Jones in a noon meeting in his office that the Braves could not afford to bring him back based on the initial contract expectations made by the centerfielder's agent, Scott Boras.


Schuerholz would not divulge the contract parameters he received from Boras in December but confirmed they were in the "top-tier" of contract in terms of salary and length. It is believed that Boras was asking for at least seven years at close to $20 million annually.

Schuerholz said the Braves would look internally, at free agents or the trade market for a replacement.

Schuerholz also said improving the team's starting pitching would be the top offseason priority.

I don't have much interest in him for the White Sox with the money/contract length he's asking for, and the declining offensive numbers.

He won't get what he wants anyway. With Tori Hunter and Aaron Rowand available as well his stock will fall.

I'd like to think what you are saying is right, but Boras has a way of getting every last dime out of the market.
