10 years? They'd better plan on moving him to 1st base or DH soon.

My reaction exactly. I dislike the Twins, but I'm really happy he didnt go to NY or Boston.

Dont worry. The twins will be short on cash in about 3 or 4 years and the Yankees will trade for him.

Maybe the White Sox fans ought to concern themselves with the White Sox building a good farm system and stop pulling their pubic hairs out over what the Twins do.
The CHICAGO WHITE SOX should be dominating the pathetic American League Central....not playing down to it.

You've typed this countless times so I did a little research to see just how 'pathetic' the AL central really is. I computed the average number of wins it took to win each division this decade. I took the 2nd place teams win total and added 1. The Tigers finished 2nd last season with 86 wins so the division winner needed 87 wins to win the division while the cubs finished 2nd with 83 wins so the division winner needed 84 wins. Here are my results for average wins needed to win each division this decade:

AL east- 92.8 wins
AL west- 91.6 wins
NL east- 88.7 wins
AL central-88.5 wins
NL west- 88.4 wins
NL central- 87.7 wins.

Fun fact: only 3 divisions had three 90 win teams in a season this decade. '06 AL central (Twins 96 Tigers 95 Sox 90) '02 NL west (D'bags 98 Giants 95 Dodgers 92) and '02 AL west (A's 103 Angels 99 Mariners 93)

This could be bad for him. It better be a deal in between $200M-$300M or he is making a huge mistake. In 10 years a player of his caliber will be making around $30M a year.

In hindsight they made the right move. At the time and for the first few years it was extremely stupid.

I'm sorry, how many MVPs did Prior win? How many Cy Young's?

Who said it was still the right move Frank? Not HoNasva and you posted right after he did. You're not a Sox fan, you're a Cubs hater. That's fine, but just admit it to yourself and the rest of us too.

I don't understand how this is figuring out how many wins it takes to win a division...you are throwing out the record of the best team...the way I see it, all you are doing is figuring out how many wins it takes to finish in second...

To win a division you only need to win 1 more game than the 2nd place team. If a 2nd place team wins 81 games does it really matter that the division winner won 100? I think this shows how competitive a division really is.

I was surprised by the AL west and NL west numbers. I thought the AL west would be the 2nd toughest division but I didn't think their average number of wins would be that high. I also thought the NL west would be the least competitive division but they had some huge win totals early in the decade.

Personally I'd laugh at any fanbase that acted so incredibly arrogant when the 'stupid' Twins drafted Mauer over Prior. It just so happened to be cub fans.

I think it just shows you can twist statistics to say whatever you want them to say.

These are not statistics they're records and how did I twist them and what did I want them to say?

Records are statistics...

You twisted them by throwing the best teams record out...

As for what you wanted them to say, the fact that you began your post with this speaks volumes...

Looking at the winners record does not show how competitive a division is. Like I said, does it matter if the division winner won 100 games and the 2nd place team won 81? It's not a competitive division. In '05 the D'Bags finished in 2nd with 77 wins. Was that a competitive division?

The records are the records. Are you just upset because the NL central finished with the worst average record?
