For Sandberg, which of these can you take an 8-10 year strech of his career and say that he put up numbers that were among the very best in the history of the game at any position? Because you can do just that for 2 of those when it comes to Frank Thomas.

Well he was always gonna hit for average. Generally between 290 and 310, averaging something like 175 or so hits a year. Also, he was generally tops in fielding for that time frame. He had some speed too. Several +30 SB seasons, even one with 54. So I'll take Fielding and Hitting for average with a Speed kicker.

Sandberg is my favorite Baseball player of all time. Yea I know he's not "the" greatest of all time, but he's my favorite & as a Cubs fan, yea I'd pick Sandberg over Frank. I know Frank was great but I would rather have Ryno on my team that the biggest douchebag asshole athlete that Chicago has ever seen, Frank Thomas.

You don't want the superior hitter because he wasn't a nice guy? Ryno was my favorite player growing up as well. I played 2nd base in little league and thought he was god's gift to baseball when I was in grade shool. Being an asshole didn't work out for Reggie Jackson or Pete Rose either I guess. Except, of course, they won multiple World Series.

I'm one of the few guys here that love both teams and I grew up watching both. I've never seen a right handed hitter hit the ball like he did his first 11 years. I love Ryno but there is no way I take him over Frank unless I have a team full of Bonds and Pujols at every other position but 2nd base. Even then I would have to think hard about it.
