Another reason why Frank Thomas is the greatest right handed hitter of all time.

Why people continue to suspect him I have no idea. There are only 2 guys from that era I think you can honestly say were clean thier whole career: Big Hurt and Greg Maddux.

Why does everyone blindly say that Frank is clean? Why does he get an immediate pass every time?

Because he was for steroid testing. That makes it impossible that he ever used anything. He didnt even use any at Auburn in the 80's playing alongside Bo Jackson.

We've had this discussion numerous times here and I'm too lazy to look for old posts. But the cliff notes to that are:

-He was always outspoken against it and said to start testing players from day 1
-He was the only one the cooperated with the Mitchell Report. And yeah say what you will about the report, I know it was sort of a crock, but nobody else voluntarily cooperated with that report other than Frank Thomas
-He got hurt and started to break down as he got older, and his numbers declined

OJ was for catching the real killer too.

1. Again he by that time made his money, made his rep and most of his career.
2. Right. Anytime someone cooperates they are innocent. Got it.
3. So breakdowns mean a player was using (No Maaa) and it's proof that he's not using (Frank)

Ok this is all proof that Frank is the cleanest player ever.

Bo Jackson attended Auburn from 1982-85. Frank Thomas attended from 1987-89.

He still had great years after 1998. In fact he was robbed of another MVP award by Giambi. You didn't see the power surge from Frank like we saw from many star players around that time. He played 10 more years after the Sosa and Mcgwire show and was outspoken the entire time. I'm pretty confident that Frank and Maddux didn't abuse. They may have cheated in different ways.

I think calling him the great clean player he is is more meatball than fact. Everyone from the era is suspect, even if he was a Sox.

I'm a Cubs fan too remember? You think Maddux is suspect too? What was he using? Beer?

Wasn't really referring to you, but I always have suspiscions about someone that says "I'm a Cubs/Sox fan too" because that is nonsense.
Do I suspect Maddux? Well, Maddux was never, ever a power guy. Frank was a power guy. I don't think they're exactly interchangable when determining the possibility of PED's but I wouldn't doubt that Maddog had a few reds before a game at all no.

A couple things....
PED's were in play well past 1998.
No one sees a surge from Pujols at all. He is remarkably consistant in fact, yet still suspected to this day, even thought they test for most PED's.
Again, OJ was outspoken to find the real killer too.

Why choose 1 when I can have both? Took me a while to understand the Cubs vs Sox thing.

OJ wanted to find the real killer AFTER he was accused.

Do you feel that way about women too?
I only have enough time, love, and energy for 1 baseball team.

OJ was charged too. There was a lot of evidence there. Roids are better now. It's the same reason why A-Rod didn't blow up. Tony keeps a slugger with a needle in his ass. He can't manage without it.

In a perfect world I would. What man wouldn't want to have more than one woman? I look at the teams like they are my kids. I can't love one more than the other.

those guys were better all around players, not better hitters.

hornsby and foxx were probably better hitters.

Great power hitters, and stellar averages, but I was trying to find guys in a more modern era. I really don't think that I remember Thomas' 56-game hit streak or his .325 lifetime BA (DiMaggio). I also don't think that Thomas hit 660 HRs to go along with a .302 lifetime BA (Mays) - so, no, you can't say that any of the players that I mentioned weren't better than Frank, hatchet...

I would hope you would use more sophisticated metrics than batting average. Use adjusted OPS, runs created, WAR...something.

I didn't think you'd go all rain man on me, it was a first-glance kind-of thing- but here you go, Hatchetman:

Thomas' WAR: 75.9

DiMaggio's: 83.4

Mays': 154.7

Aarons': 141.5

They have Frank's beat to shit. They also have Foxx's, at 94.0, beat to shit, and Hornsby's, at 127.7, beat as well...thanks :D

I would take the 10 year stretch Frank had over any of those hitters. No one was a better hitter from the right side IMO. Frank is a top 5 hitter of all time (in his prime).

you need to subtract fielding and make it per 500 AB. I admitted they were better players all-around.

Doesn't WAR have to do with fielding also? Given that Frank was probably no better than average at that wouldn't it skew the statistics when trying to judge him as a hitter?
