If 03 Cubs had won, Wood and Prior could have taken roids on the mound the following season and I wouldnt have cared.

So this decision looks even worse now.

Report: Nationals open to trading Stephen Strasburg

Bill Baer

They may keep Jordan Zimmermann, but USA TODAY’s John Perrotto reports that the Nationals are open to trading Stephen Strasburg, saying he is “very much available”. He adds that both sides believe it is time to move on.

Strasburg, 26, avoided arbitration in his second year of eligibility last week, agreeing to a one-year deal worth $7.4 million. He’ll be eligible for arbitration in his final year going into the 2016 season, after which he can become a free agent.

Strasburg has been one of baseball’s best starters over the past three seasons, compiling an aggregate 3.10 ERA with a 630/147 K/BB ratio in 557 1/3 innings. His 28 percent strikeout rate over that span of time is bested only by Yu Darvish (30.1%) and new teammate Max Scherzer (28.6%).

Overpay for someone and then make room for him by trading a guy who's just as good and much cheaper...yeah, that's some good stuff right there...

I don't get it either. Why get rid of younger players and waste money on a free agent? The price of free agent pitching is off the charts. The market looks like a bubble...but then again I recall that Sports Illustrated cover about player salaries back when I was much younger. We all thought salaries were out of control back then.

I had Strasburg on my fantasy team last year, and he drove me crazy. I'm looking at his stats on http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/strasst01.shtml, and I'm surprised they're as good as they are. Every start it seemed like he was at 100 pitches by the 5th inning. Great talent and totally dominating when he's on, but I'm not sold on him. Oh, and I know no one gives a crap, but I won the league (more because of my offense, but still). 8)

He only hit 100+ pitches 12 times last year, and the majority of those were 6+ inning games.

I can understand not liking the contract terms for the deal, but if you are a Nationals fan, how could you not like this?

Rizzo is going all in. Here it is. He is saying this is the year they win the WS. The rotation is ridiculous. And, if need be, they could trade one of them for a top line bat at the deadline if they wanted to.

This may suck 4 years from now (or in 2028), but you can't fault them for trying. Especially since the window for winning a WS is down to 1 year with the Cubs looking to win 10 straight starting in 2016.

The Cubs should make an offer for him.

If not, bring back Lackey as a special instructor. Those two should get along great.
