The Rangers did too much batting in the top of the 7th so it will mess up his mojo and he will no longer be perfect.

How many games will end without the Astros getting a hit this season?

Would this give AJ the all time record for perfect games caught?

EDIT: It would give him the tie with Ron Hassey

Didn't Qualls break up a no hitterwith two outs in the ninth when he played for the Cubs against the Mets?
It must have been the late 60's and the Mets pitcher was Koosman or Seaver, I believe.

This is a season long thread. I figure it will be bumped at least 50 times.

Sometimes, no hitters, perfect games are just not that impressive due to the competition, the lineups, the time of the game, etyc. Know what I mean Phil and Carlos? Or if you allow a ball to leave the park for a HR and an amazing play by a journeyman OF brings it back in.

I'm pretty sure it was Seaver's perfecto he broke up.

Or sometimes you hit a guy and allow an infield single so your game cannot even be in the discussion of greatest ever pitched.

Except by the most respected mind in baseball in the last 50 years.

But the ball didn't leave the park. It was caught.

1 was a hit

2 was a flyout. Conversation over.

We've been thru this time and time again. Even taking away the hit, or making it an error, Wood still hit a batter.

0 baserunners > 1 or 2 baserunners

There are many times I look at a baseball situation and think "Should I use the Frank Costanza method of analysis or Bill James"?

Its about a 50/50 split

Even by CSFMB standards, its time to stop arguing about this.

It is, because a perfecto is better.

Its also very fitting that this comes up again in a thread with this title, about a game that ended up with the Astros getting 2 hits.

I know you want to make it that simple but you are wrong. Frank if you watched both those games there is no way you didn't think Wood was more dominant. I'm younger than some of you but that was by far the greatest game by a pitcher I have ever seen. No one had a chance that day and they knew it. He may have struck God out if he came up to the plate. That's how great he was that game.
