He was impressive. We were trying to figure out how big he was. I went with 5'5'" 120. He started out throwing 80-81 then he started popping 86 and 87's. Kevin came over and told us he runs a 6.3 60.

Where were you sitting? I looked around but didn't see you.

It's funny. In the pregame forum he asked the panelists about their views on his lack of size. My own son laughed his ass off behind that. That kid was nasty on the mound, solid at the plate iirc & seemed like a "baseball player". From the batter's box it must take forever to figure out his delivery.

I would take a team of kids like that any day of the week. (Obviously)

I was behind the visitors' dugout. I didn't realize you were in the scout seats until just before my own son took the mound. By the time I looked up you had checked out (I think). If you're gonna be at Perfect Game let me know, I'll buy the first beer...err, pop.

I don't think his lack of size will matter in college. I think a lot of coaches would love to have him at the top of their lineup and let him run wild. I got him at 3.79 on the sac bunt and he didn't get out of the box that quick. I'm not sure about him on the mound though I love the Luis Tiant/Johnny Cueto turn your back to the hitter windup. I think college hitters especially in the South would catch on to that pretty quick.

I was there until the end as I was VERY comfortable. Which PG event? I'm having a hard time keeping everything straight.

Bad news for our local boys. Great news for LSU and Missouri.

People are starting to wonder if Brady Aiken really is injured or if the Astros are using it as a negotiating ploy to get him to sign for less money. If true that organization has sunk to a new low.

New reports say the Astros lowered their offer to $3,168,840 which is the minimum offer to receive a compensatory pick in next years draft. God I hate this organization. What a bunch of scumbags.

Yep and did yuo see that Aiken's adviser/agent also represents one of he two later round picks that the 'Stros are trying to sign and use some of the Aiken money for..... MLB is said to be looking into this since the player and team had agreed and then they made up a medical excuse to offer him less.

The concern regarding Aiken involves his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), a source tells Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle. “He may have some [of the ligament], but not much,” the source said, apparently referring to the natural size — rather than any tearing — of Aiken’s UCL. A hypothetical Tommy John procedure would not be a straightforward solution in Aiken’s case, the source adds.

While the issue may be “cut-and-dry,” per Drellich’s source, it appears that its interpretation is the crux of the ongoing debate. The young lefty has seen two team doctors and three independent specialists (including Dr. James Andrews) to assess the situation, according to Drellich. Close, Aiken’s agent, told Rosenthal that his client “has been seen by some of the most experienced and respected orthopedic arm specialists in the country, and all of those doctors have acknowledged that he’s not injured and that he’s ready to start his professional career.”

Drellich spoke with an expert orthopedist — Dr. Chris Geary of the Tufts Medical center, apparently not among those who have seen Aiken — who tells him that a congenitally small UCL would not necessarily indicate a greater risk of a UCL tear or lowered success rate if a TJ procedure became necessary. Geary indicated that further information would be necessary to assess Aiken’s overall susceptibility to elbow trouble, and said that other physical attributes could mean that he is perfectly capable of pitching without any particular concern.

So he was born with a small UCL. Appears like the Astros are happy they found this "abnormality" so they now have a reason to lowball him.

The Angels and LHP Sean Newcomb agreed on a $2.5184 bonus. The deal is slightly above slot.

That leaves 8 unsigned players in the top 10 rounds. The signing deadline is today at 5pm EST.

The Astros did not come to terms with 1-1 Brady Aiken or 5th rounder Jacob Nix. Aiken is committed to UCLA.

Dumb decision on both sides. Astros make themselves look bad and at same time kid will likely not make that money back. I would think he would go Juco now so he can go back in next season.

The Astros upped their offer to $5M because they finally realized they wouldn't sign Aiken, Nix and Marshall. Aiken told the bunch of assbags to pound sand so they end up with none of them.

I hope he goes to a JUCO and reenters the draft next year. It would be awesome if the Rangers end up with the first pick and Aiken spends the next 10 years sticking it up the Astros ass every time he pitches against them.

You don't have that exactly right. if they don't sign Aiken they aren't going to have the money to sign the other kid because they lose the entire slot amount. They had agreed to a deal with Aiken that was well under slot which allowed them to sign the other kid.

Good thing the Astros have nuclear physicists in the front office. Should we call off the 2017 World Series?

30. It was only at 26 from '77 to '92.

So doesn't this make the vaunted Astros front office look pretty bad, not signing its #1 pick? Certainly can't help. Looks like "bad optics" to me!

It makes them look horrible. It's only the third time a 1-1 didn't sign. Houston's GM Jon Luhnow said he increased his offer three times today and never received a counteroffer from Aiken's camp. He knows he fucked up.

Unless Aiken becomes Prior, or any countless other number of pitchers that failed due to injury.
