Down in Arkansas that would not be a problem.

You'd think it wouldn't be a problem in Indiana either. This will really hurt his draft stock and it should give him a much better chance of ending up on campus, Hawger.

Aaron Nola extended his scoreless innings streak to 53 with 8 shutout innings against Purdue. Nola went 8 IP 2 H 0 ER 0 BB 12 K.

Tyler Beede had another impressive outing. Beede went 7 IP 6 H 1 ER 0 BB 9 K

These two will face each other next week in the opening weekend of SEC conference play. It's a tremendous matchup between two sure first rounders and potential top 10 picks.

HS LHP Brady Aiken was up to 93-96 and touched 97 in a scrimmage today. He also featured an 80 mph hammer curveball along with his plus change.

Carlos Rodon had a solid outing pitching a complete game against Notre Dame. Rodon was 93-95 and held his velocity deep into the game. 9 IP 10H 3 ER 1 BB 7 K's

Jeff Hoffman had an atrocious outing against Marshall. Hoffman's stuff was ok but his command was gone. 3.1 IP 2 H 3 ER 7 BB 6 K's

HS SS Jacob Gatewood hit two mammoth home runs in his first two games of the season.

I talked to a kid on the Ignatius baseball team who swears high school AVERAGE pitchers are throwing in the 80s mph (I think he termed it as every pitcher on his team). I kind of laughed at the kid. I wonder if I thought that back in the day. I don't really seem to remember pitch speed being discussed. I seem to recall a guy who was the top catholic league pitcher at Loyola and who was going to some directional Michigan university was in the 70s.

I would agree with the Kid. You see very few high schoolers in the 70's. Maybe during the backend of a doubleheader but that's about it. I'd say average high school velocity is easily in the low 80's.

I find that incredibly difficult to believe. You are essentially telling me there is not much difference in speed between an MLB pitcher and the AVERAGE high school pitcher. You are also telling me that fastball speed has increased 10+mph across the board in the last 20 years.

You are obviously closer to the situation.

I know not the truth, but it wouldn't surprise me given the increasing professionalism of youth sports.

I read somewhere the avg major league fastball for a righty is 92. 91 for a lefty. 10 mph is a HUGE difference. Every year there are thousands of high schoolers who can throw upper 80's. There are less than fifty who can throw 90+(This year is an exception).

When I was in high school, our team had 4 pitchers. They all pitched between 86-92 mph. All of them were drafted.

HS RHP Grant Holmes sat 93-96 and topped at 97 in a recent start. He also had his plus mid 80's hard curveball working and featured a new 86-88 changeup that showed above average.

C Kyle Schwarber hit is 3rd home run of the season and is really starting to heat up.

HS RHP Jake Godfrey (Providence) has backed out of his commitment to Notre Dame. He reportedly has visits lined up to LSU, UCLA and Vanderbilt.

Carlos Rodon had his dominate stuff in a loss to Florida St Friday night. Rodon sat 93-96 and had command of his wipeout slider. 6.2 IP 5 H 2 ER 4 BB 12 K's.

Luke Weaver was also on his game Friday night. Weaver sat 89-93 and showed his plus changeup. 6.1 IP 7 H 1 ER 2 BB 7 K's.

Aaron Nola was dominate in a victory against Vandy. Nola sat 91-94 and touched a 95 while showing his usual pinpoint command. 6.2 IP 6 H 1 ER 2 BB 12 K's.

Tyler Beede had another very good outing but was a tough luck loser against LSU. Beede sat 92-95 and had his power curveball working. 7.1 IP 3 H 0 ER 1 BB 7 K's.

Jeff Hoffman had another rough outing Friday night. His velocity was down to 91-94 and he again struggled with his command. 6.1 IP 7 H 5 ER 2 BB 5 K's.

In five years, one of us will laugh about this kid. No, we'll probably both laugh, just one of us about how wrong he/I(?) was.

I gotta tell ya, Reader. I feel pretty good about my position on this one. Kids a stud.

Has your Boy played a game yet? I went to one this morning and damn it was cold. Looks like next week will be wiped out too. This really sucks.
