Andy Yerzy. Ha! He doesn't have a chance to stay behind the plate.

Ryan Boldt to the Rays. Man do I love that kid. He's gonna be a big leaguer for a long long time. He does everything right.

Can't believe Bryan Reynolds lasted that long and of course the Gigantes snatch him up. Smart organization who knows how to find talent.

4 Louisville players gone. Not the one who took the gamble.

Yet another Chicago area player goes. Big Mattias Dietz from Sandburg HS. Kid can flat out throw smoke. Skies the limit for MD.

from ESPN

Law's BIG Board Rank #34

Alec Hansen

RHP 6' 7"235 lbs.Oklahoma

Summary :
Hansen came into the season as a candidate for the first overall selection. He showed an upper-90s fastball, plus slider, some spurts of effective control and changeup feel as a sophomore. All Hansen needed to show this year be a lock for the top 5 was show some progression with the command and changeup and hold serve on everything else.

Instead, he has gone backward. Hansen's best start of the year came at UCLA in March, when he was 93-98 with a slider that flashed plus and average control. This season, he has walked 18 over 20 innings and has an ERA over 7 despite striking out 28 hitters. The velocity remains but the slider quality has waxed and waned, and Hansen's already fringe control has completely evaporated.

It's hard to say what happens next. Hansen might be drafted by an enterprising team hoping to buy low on a front-of-the rotation ceiling, which Hansen still has, though seems far less likely to attain. It's hard to justify using an early pick on someone who has had 20 control at times this year. There's a chance Hansen doesn't sign and hopes for a bounceback senior season to rebuild his stock, which remains volatile. If he finishes the season on a six-week tear, rejoins OU's rotation and dominates, then he could be right back in the top 10.

Cincy comes out of the gate with Nick Hanson. Big frame, easy delivery and he can really spin it. Nice way to start day 2.

I wonder if Cubs actually go pitching heavy in this draft.

I think they will. Interested to see if they pop a HS pitcher out of Indiana with this pick.

You can always count on the Nats to take the TJ guy.

Cubs took Tom Hatch. He had arm problems in 2015, but was very effective in 2016.

I'd say he cost himself money. Boras works for him.

The Cubs have drafted 3 pitchers with their first 3 picks.

The deadline to sign is Friday and three first rounders remain unsigned:

7. Braxton Garrett Miami
12. Jason Groome Boston
31. Anthony Kay NY Mets

Not sure what's been the holdup with Kay. Groome will be the most difficult to sign but I expect all three to get done.

All three signed. Boston gets the best player in the draft with the 12th pick and only $3.65M. The holdup on Kay was an MRI showed something with his elbow. Probably because of the gazillion pitches he threw in the conference and ncaa tournaments.

There were a couple surprise Illinois HS signings for way too much money. Good for them I guess.
