Even a robot would have called a strike on that final pitch of the game.

I would think that were this ever to come to pass, it would be more of an advisory system for the plate umpire, who'd still make all the other calls. There would have to be significant leeway for judgment calls on the edges, but it would eliminate getting everything low and away on reputation and stuff like that.

Balls & strikes would be 100% automated. The technology absolutly exists to make calling balls & strikes 100% accurate.
Home plate umpire would still make calls at the plate.

Cub batters bitching at the ump yesterday reminded me of Alou bitching at Bartman

I don't believe the technology is actually quite there yet. Eric Byrnes has been pitching a system to MLB, but I'm not sure it's perfected.

100% need to rid the game of human umpires.

they're full of arrogance, attitude and incompetence.

never saw so many ankle strikes in my life.

the game will improve dramatically once the position is eliminated.

I am sure it will happen with the balls and strikes at some point, but I hope it is not anytime soon.

It will become a game of darts with the pitchers choosing a corner and trying to clip it every single time if they do that.

that's what they do now. they actually don't even try to clip the plate since the umps are handing 5 inches outside and below the knee.

They need to have robot fielders who will not double clutch throws or drop line drives hit at them too. Only then will the games be worth watching.

luckily they have automated vines that suck up inside the park home runs to cause ground rule doubles

For years, we’ve seen umpires have inconsistent strike zones based on the individual amp, and the pitcher on the mound. The technology is there or very close. As much as I love the human part of the game, I agree that most umpires feel they’re a bigger part of the game than they should be. I’m all for automating balls and strikes.

I think actually holding umps accountable would clear up 95% of the problem. "Look, call the official strike zone or you'll be fired."

Nobody (very few) wants the official strike zone

The letter high strike is the enemy of most fans
