Hitch benched Elliott for game 4. Allen will start.

Do you think that's the right thing to do? I don't really see elliott as the problem but I guess you gotta try something.

Are the Sharks that much better? I didn't pay attention to them this year but I thought the Blues were good.

I love that gif too, RFDC.

That lady's expression and smirk is probably similar to looks you give around here often, eh?

I don' t think the Sharks are top to bottom better. Blues have better goaltending. Blues PP was better coming into the series.

Sharks have much better defense; and they roll 3 defensive lines with almost equal ice time.

Thanks to their skilled, relatively rested blue-liners, Sharks are selling out on attacking/trapping whomever has the puck for the Blues.
And it's completely baffled the Blues offensively.

After watching these games, Stars and more so the Hawks would like another crack at the Blues.

really noticeable in Game 2 how when the Blues went on the PP, Sharks wouldn't hang back and let the Blues get into the zone. They'd run 3 skaters out at the Blues puck-handler trying to carry the puck into the zone and that caused the Blues all manner of difficulties. Blues went 0 for 6 on PP's in Game 2. O for on PP's again in Game 3.

Blues had a PP + pulled the goalie with 4 minutes to go in Game 3--and didn't even get a shot on goal for the next 3 minutes....

Blues couldn't get or keep the puck in the Sharks zone.

didn't catch the game. but it sounds like a combination of Blues making adjustments (why'd they wait so long to figure out they needed to have good skater carry the puck into the zone non-stop from zone to zone on the PP? or dump in the corner and scrum for it?) and the Sharks taking a snooze for a couple periods.

That was text book by the Blues on how to beat the Sharks little trap they keep running on puck-handlers bringing it in along the boards. Blues skater takes the zone with puck, stops and immediately passes between 2 trapping Sharks to a streaking Blues player coming into the zone in the middle of the ice. Blues player shoots, rebound whacked back in by the Blues, who had numbers around the net still thanks to the 2 trapping Sharks being behind the play now.

Blues about to go down 3-2. At least 1 team from St Louis will lose tonight.

Tarasenko is a -4 with no points in this series. Bad.

Great job by the Blues coaching staff--their offense is stymied, so they swap out the best healthy goalie remaining in the playoffs, Elliott, for Allen.

I didn't get that move, nor Pittsburgh putting an ice-cold Fleury back in after Murray got them this far. Sometimes people make the game harder than it needs to be.

As far as Fluery, I can only guess they figured he warmed up as he played period three the game prior. We will see who is in the pipes tonight.

Whoever was doing analysis yesterday shared a story of Armstrong telling Brouwer he was acquired not to be a role player but a star on the Blues.

Still can't believe the Hawks lost to these clowns.

You have to tell him shit like that or he shuts down. Quenneville took him off Toews and Kane's line in 2011 and he practically slit his wrists. Stopped being of any use whatsoever. I hate that guy.

Blues goalie Brian Elliott in the 4 Blues wins in the 1st round vs the Hawks:

SV/SA
----------
35/35
44/46
39/42
31/33

149/156

~96% SV%

Elliott had similarly gaudy numbers vs Dallas in the 2nd round, at least in enough games to win the series.

He started off the conf finals exactly as he ended the 2nd round, stopping 31 out of 32 shots. Game 2 was one of the sub 90% games he has posted in each round. and then Game 3, where the Blues were working on their 7 straight scoreless period streak, he finally got torched a bit and posted a sub 80% SV%.

but it was a mistake to not bring him back the next game; or at least last night, once the Blues had figured out how to play the Sharks trap enough to score a few goals.

Eliiott's the reason Blues are where they are.

and not playing Elliott is the reason they are probably not going to make it to the Finals.

Hitch may have saved his job by getting past the first and second rounds, and I could understand the change if Elliott had two bad outings in a row and they were down 3-1, but not bringing Elliott right back in Game 5 with the series tied 2-2 was country dumb.

Agreed. Elliott had a bad game, wonderful, put Allen in. After that always follow what works - staying with one goalie. Pittsburgh is going to learn this hard lesson as well.
