I did too. Too bad he couldn't develop other areas of his game.

I remember my first burn: Petri Kontiola. He got depression from playing in Rockford and was a total bust: went back to Finland and only a year or two ago attempted a comeback with Toronto, which failed. Michael Frolik wasn't a bust, but I thought the sky was the limit with him and the limit turned out to be "really kick-ass fourth liner when the salary cap sorta doesn't count," for us, at least. He's been a decent complementary scorer for the Jets and Flames, but the hype was Baby Jagr. Never trust Europeans, and never ever ever trust Panthers prospects.

Sergei Krivokrasov and Igor Kravchuk were the first non-North American players that severely disappointed me. Two high draft picks from Russia that management hyped to be the next Federov and Fetisov. Kravchuk had a long career and Krivo had a couple of good years, but neither of them really made a significant impact during their careers.

I was at the playoff game in '96 when Krivokrasov had the OT winner against Colorado. Probably the best feeling walking out of a stadium I've had. Colorado still won in 6 and then the Cup.

It's just one game, I know, just one game, but the Senators, projected to be the worst hockey team that ever hockeyed because they lost Erik Karlsson, beat the fraud-ass Dallas Stars 4-1 tonight, and that puts such a smile on my face.

Toronto and Winnipeg on NBC Sports? I’ve never seen two Canadian teams play a nationally broadcast regular season game during prime time. Good for NBC.

It's been a good game so far but the Jets look like they're missing something from last year. I think they started slow last year, too.

Toronto took two from Winnipeg this week. Nice comeback win from the Leafs last night after Matthews went down. Also heard that the Toronto/Winnipeg game on Wednesday night on NBC Sports had 167,000 viewers during prime time. That doesn't bode well for future non-big American cities in prime time slots.

Not a good number, but they were going against the World Series

That's true. Plus, you gotta figure most of the northeast are Boston fans.

The necessary project of making American fans of Canadian teams is not one I expected to happen overnight. But there should be national fanbases of the Maple Leafs and Canadiens the way there are the Cowboys, Yankees, or Lakers.

Blues get spanked at home vs. the Wild 5-1, and only manage 16 SOG in the process (Wild had 45j.

Mike Yeo, your cab is waiting...

Why the hell is this Minnesota team any good? I'm so bored of them. Stupid Boudreau and his regular-season wins.

That was my thought as well. They need to launch Yeo. Granted, Allen has been brutal but that team is too talented to be getting those kind of results.

The Jets alternate uniforms are horrible. Their primary sweaters are some of the best in the league and then they go to jerseys that it looks like the owner's 8 year-old designed.

Jack Edwards is fun. That's what an NHL broadcast booth should be like: local guys getting pissed about everything.

Edwards is an insufferable bag. He and Marchand make me greatly dislike Boston. Add Krug to that list as well.

Nah. Cranky homers like Edwards, Mickey Redmond, and Pat Foley make the NHL go 'round. Edwards in particular is great at playing the Dumb Bruins Guy, which is like any other Dumb Team Guy but with a certain (Clavinian?) gasbag pseudo-intellectualism. My favorite was the time he said "we've entered quantum physics" because a call was going to get overturned but then didn't.

If you like it, wonderful. I have no interest in listening to outspoken, homer announcers.

Blue fire Yeo

Quote:
St. Louis Blues fired coach Mike Yeo a quarter of the way into the season and named Craig Berube as his interim replacement.

Post subject:  Re: Around the NHL: 2018-19

I hope they stick with Berube, it'll be like when they replaced Andy Murray with Davis Payne and his first game was just a cavalcade of fighting majors, and then the Blues finished in like 11th.

For all the things you and I disagree on, I am glad we can have common ground on hating the Blues. I just wish I was there in person to see some of their idiot fans take it on the chin

I wonder if any Jets fans in attendance counted to eight tonight. That's the Blues fan specialty, demonstrating they can count.

I hope so. That was definitely one of the more annoying parts of watching a game there.

Philly has built a fantastic young group of prospects both in the NHL and in the system. Seems like a coaching change was needed before the GM.

Well, he did hire the current coach, yes?

No Ed Snider = no loyalty to Hextall. I do wonder who runs the Flyers now that they're fully a subsidiary of Comcast.
