The Panthers just lost up in Raleigh, so they fired head coach Gerard Gallant and shoved him into a taxi bound for the airport. The interim coach is new general manager Tom Rowe, who had not worked in management before halfway through last year and has never been a head coach in the NHL. This is like all those times Lou Lamoriello fired the coach of the Devils and coached them himself, if Lou Lamoriello only got his job a year ago because the owner's kid didn't like Dale Tallon. Fantastic organization they got down there in Broward.

Jake Allen got lit up so bad against Washington (so it's not just us) that the Blues left him in St. Louis for their road game in Winnipeg and called up a goalie I have literally never heard of in my entire life to start against the Jets. His name is "Pheonix Copley." Not Phoenix, Pheonix. And it's the Jets, so they'll lose to him in overtime.

Kinda took my eye off the standings for a few days and mother of god are the Avalanche terrible. A .292 points percentage and a -72 differential. The Sabres weren't this bad in 2015 and that was when they were trying to be the worst team! The Avs were trying to be good!

Robby Fabbri done for the year for the Blues, he scored or assisted on 19.8% of St. Louis's goals. Guess that's probably it for them.

CH's buddy Mike Ribiero gets put on waivers, and sent to Mileaukee when no one claims him.

Also one of the Coyotes' Dead Cap Space All-Stars with Datsyuk, Pronger, Vermette, and Bolland.

I always did like Andrew Shaw here, but the Habs are paying $5.5MM for 19 points, 90 PIMs, and various ejections/suspensions. They gotta get out from under that one.

I guess Stan wins again. Hartman has thus far outperformed Shaw, at a much lower price, and much less boneheadedness.

Shaw was the kind of guy who, in a non-cap world, was meant to come up with one team and stay there forever as a Product Of The System and loyal soldier. Shaw seems like a fish out of water with the Habs, and why wouldn't he? It's hard to jell with that team because there's no core there the same way there is here, and the team's title drought has made everyone inside and outside the organization downright neurotic about integrity and ghosts and speaking French and all sorts of crap no one else cares about. I think lots of players can thrive in Montreal, but Shaw isn't one of them, and certainly not at twice the cap hit he's worth. Good for him getting paid, but I don't see the story ending happily.

By next Saturday, the Hawks and Wild's schedules will have evened up and we'll see just how far back the hawks actually are...it will be between 3 and 9 points.

Go Red Wings, Ducks and Stars! At least for this week.

Oof, they could go six for six on Wings/Ducks/Stars. Those teams blow.

So badly do I want the Jets to surge into the playoffs with the talent they have. They should be able to but I fear they don't have enough bullets left in the chamber, though; teams around them have three or four games in hand. I have no empirical proof at the moment but it seems like this has happened a lot with Winnipeg, where they seem to be in or near a playoff spot until other teams burn off their games in hand and zip by them. I remember in happening in 2012 for sure with Washington, back when they were still on Atlanta's schedule.

Patrick Eaves to Anaheim for a 1st/2nd conditional pick. Racked up goals on the power play, presumably with Benn and/or Seguin, but I don't think he's gonna make the Ducks more than mediocre.

Our 2015 Final adversary Ben Bishop to the Kings for Peter Budaj.

Hanzal is made of glass. Even if they get to the third round, will he?

32/33 saves last time. Pretty good goals against for their back up all year. Odd trade, that's all I'm saying.

I can't believe it: Dallas traded Jamie Benn's useless brother Jordie Benn to Montreal.

The only thing I can think of is that Bishop is a rental for insurance purposes, since he's a FA after this season. Quick still has like eight years left on his deal, with $7M per the next five.
