Further to @TSNBobMcKenzie's report on Erik Karlsson, I'm told the deal is indeed done: 8 years max deal, north of $11 million per season... the Sharks with a huge move in keeping the superstar D from hitting the market.

 Sharks are going to be a mess in 5 years.

That's pretty dumb. Sure felt for all the world like the Sharks were running EK into the ground for his one year there so that someone else could overpay for whatever was left of him. But I guess this means everyone can get a good laugh in at Montreal's expense for failing to sign another free agent.

yeah, that's going to become a really ugly contract the last 3-4 years.

Trouba to the Rags for Pionk and the Jets' own 1st. Big loss for the Jets, but apparently Trouba was getting really pouty about the whole Winnipeg thing and it was showing on the ice. Hopefully their farm system can crank out another good defenseman, because Neal Pionk probably isn't one.

that rotten snake provides absolutely nothing for the quarter of a reg season and playoffs

trade top-4 dman for your pick back and filler

Yeah, fuck Kevin Hayes, I don't know how anyone thought he'd contribute anything. The Jets tried to recreate the Paul Stastny bump but with a guy who's no good but gets sucked off for playing in New York, just like their other fifteen-some generic 6'2" NCAA guys.

And this is all happening while the union is dithering on whether to bump up the cap 5%, too. Delightful!

Draft got interesting. Yzerman feels untouchable I guess. Can't say I can break down this pick much.

I was hoping for a tracksuit or that hobo-ish '70s Springsteen getup.

The Preds fans think they’re in the Panarin derby now

Seriously, though, I can’t fault Nashville for doing this. They get rid of a guy who may be declining, and open up a good chunk of cap room.

Amy I wrong for thinking he's not worthy of Patrick Kane money?

Panarin is the Rangersest signing in years. He's gonna live among Russians, fuck supermodels, and float around on 9th place Rangers teams.

Word here in Jacketland is that all three big FAs were offered more money to re-sign than what they ended up leaving for, with allegedly Panarin being offered 8/96 yesterday.

Seeing that John Davidson left his long-time POHO post to go back to the Ranger, speculation is perhaps discord in the front office/issues with Torts (?) scared these guys away - except for Bob, who wanted to be near the ocean.

Or Columbus tops out as a good-place-to-raise-a-family market and not one that attracts or retains top talent. Guys won't bitch about it or denigrate it in public like they do with Winnipeg or did to Quebec City, but if players can do better, they will.

The “great place to raise a family” thing ticked one of Duchene’s boxes, but the “country music enough for ya” box apparently went unchecked :?

Also, Wheaton’s own Ryan Dzingal, who is an OSU grad that was excited about coming here from Ottawa (in the Duclair trade), decided not to pursue re-signing here. Hmmm...

New arena forthcoming for the Calgary Flames, so I guess they won't be moving to Houston after all.
