My hockey fan brother (hockey runs in the family) sent me a drunk text tonight (drinking also runs in the family) about moving the winter classic to 9 or 10 p.m. on new years eve rather than having it on new years day at 12... sure it would probably be so cold that the ice would be chippy and absolute crap, but fuck it, think of the audience that you could have... you wouldn't have to compete with the new years day bowls, and all the people at bars would be watching...

watching outdoor hockey at night=fantastic fucking idea IMO...

I see the appeal of not competing against other major sporting events, but where the hell could you possibly pull this off? Chicago, on NYE at 9 p.m.? Cold as hell, major wind chill. And that would be downright balmy compared to all of the Canadien cities that the NHL really wants to hold this thing in.

I spent the $$$ to go last year at Wrigley, but here is no way I'm coughing up that kind of scratch to lose a limb to frostbite, during amateur hour on NYE.

I actually like the idea of 2 winter classic games. Not gonna lie, I was jonesing for some hockey when I got home from the WC last year. It would've been neat if some team out west would've had an afternoon game. I don't know if it should be an every year thing though.
