In most peoples view they are 2 of the best goalies of the last 25 years or so. Both are multiple Cup winners. Question is who do you think is better and who would you take if you had a Game 7 to win for all the marbles.

No love for Hasek?

I'll take Brodeur, and then after the game I'll kick Roy's kid's ass.

That's a great question. The Devils' Martin Brodeur is the ONLY goalie of the 4 teams still in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a Championship on his resume.

Yeah, but 2012 Brodeur isn't 1993-2001 Brodeur. This one can be had, and has been had quite a bit this year.

Brodeur is very good but it took being a product of his system to be great. Roy is just great. I take Roy.

It's Roy with no hesitation. Brodeur is great, but as CH touched only, been the beneficiary of the team/system he has been in. Trying to find the stat, but saw something along the lines that he's been top 5 in save percentage only a few times in his career.

To answer the question...Patrick Roy.

Doc goes wild on ever "drive". He is way over the top, making each shot from the blue line sound like a game 7 series winner in triple OT.

I'd take Brodeur. The only guys I would say were better are Sawchuk and Ken Dryden.

Didnt Patrick Roy (rhymes with BOY not JAH) once purposely let up a bunch of goals?

No, he was just really shitty that night and his coach wouldn't take him out of the game. It's only been in the last year or so that he's forgiven the Canadiens for that.

Oh really?

I thought he did it because he wanted a trade or something

I thought that was the case. Patrick Roy wanted out of Montreal if memory serves.

Yeah, he wanted out after the game. He and the coach (Mario Tremblay?) didn't get along, Roy was having a bad night, it was a bitch move by Tremblay to keep him in well after the game was out of hand to show him up. He demanded the trade to a Habs executive sitting by the tunnel when he was finally taken out.

Oh, and the goalie the Habs got back from the Avs in the Roy trade? Our guy, Jocelyn Thibault!

Well, which one of them is likely to gut you like a fish if you don't take his side?
Choose wisely.

I've always been a huge Brodeur fan, but the only place he's in the same class as Roy is on paper.

Yeah, Gary Thorne's Place, ESPN2 cancelled it in 2004. I'll never forget the Very Special Episode where they wrote out Steve Moore in that tragic accident and Markus learned the true meaning, for better or worse, of loyalty.

I just caught a documentary on the "Summit Series" in 1972. It got me to thinking about Vladislav Tretiak. He's a guy who is widely considered the greatest goaltender in the history of the game- better even than Sawchuk, Dryden, Hall, Roy, Brodeur, Hasek. But in the West he's known for his losses far more than for his accomplishments.
