Guess coach isn't axed yet. I assume the new GM will demand this.

Where did you see this? Everything that I have read says that Bylsma was retained & the new GM will decide his fate. Bad idea. Bylsma should be fired immediately.

Yahoo sports had it.

The Yahoo Sports NHL home page says "Penguins coach Bylsma avoids the chopping block".

I always thought most of the Hawks beat writers were fanboys until I listened to the presser today. One of theirs asked Morehouse in a nutshell "are you upset that the league didn't punish anybody who breathed on Crosby"

Yeah. The Hawks guys aren't so bad after all.

Shero was always ambitious in trying to get players at the deadline, but he couldn't draft for shit, which made the Penguins untenably top-heavy. That's one big difference between the Penguins and Blackhawks. Sure, Crosby and Malkin may be better than Toews and Kane, but our depth players have always been better than theirs, who amount to cannon fodder, basically. You think we get frustrated with our guys? Imagine rounding things out with Tanner Glass and Taylor Pyatt. They don't really have a choice.

EDIT: Shero was a Nashville guy, right? Yep, there's another team that can't find its ass with both hands in the draft.

This is pretty spot on. Cap management and drafting. And what little they had they trade for guys like Ignilia and Scuderri as rentals.

Pittsburgh has over $60 million committed to 14 roster players. Orpik, Niskanen, and Jokinen are all free agents, Despres restricted. Cap's gonna be around $70 million at best. $7.25MM for Kris Letang SUDDENLY NOT LOOKING SO FUCKING SMART.

God, Craig Adams is still hanging around the Penguins. The Blackhawks put him on waivers and the Pens picked him up. That was five years ago.

EDIT: speaking of cap capers, the Bruins are looking at around $4MM in dead cap space for next year. Grrrr, it's Montreal's fault!

I thought I heard on radio Pens have only 12 players for sure under contract for next year and yes dead money all over. Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and Letang take up the most by far.

Twelve skaters, two goalies. Capgeek lists the following players as being under contract for 2015:

Malkin, Crosby, Neal, Kunitz, Dupuis, Bennett, Adams, OHHH OHHH KRISTOPHER LETANG OHHH OHHH, Martin, Scuderi, Maataa, Bortuzzo, Fleury, Zatkoff. Everyone else is up for renewal or on assignment. Could get fun for them.
