Bolland to FLA

 Wow that is something.

And he got like 5 million a year?

Any chance he'd be interested in Versteeg again?

They're already retaining half his salary. I'm not sure if the NHL lets you take a player back while you're retaining salary.

I just can't get over how dumb this Bolland signing is. He's a playoff specialist with an injury history; what's he doing long-term on a team that won't be making the playoffs for a while? Moreover, what are they doing signing him when they already have good center depth internally?

Yup, he was the knuckle dragger who rocked quite a few Hawks.

Yea Bolland is a weird fit. They have Bjustad, Huberdeau, Barkov, Pirri, and Gomez. I guess they're shifting some young guys.

Stars got Ales Hemsky. Good move for them.

Hawks still goofing off.

Vanek to Minnesota is now official. Stars, Blues, and Wild all making big improvements, Hawks still perfectly happy to let the field catch up to them.

Lest anyone think I want the Hawks to sign anyone, let me say that I'm glad we didn't drop all that money on Shawn fucking Thornton. Oof.

Iginla to the Avs. This is getting pretty bleak. Everyone's getting better.

Hawks signed Peter Regin for $650K. Well, it's something, but this still looks really bad for us to stand idly by while the rest of the West shores up.

The Hawks are over the cap. Who are they going to sign?

There is a 10% maneuverability waiver to be over and makes moves to get back under.

CH is looking for Bowman to go full Luhnow. Hey Phoenix, how about Oduya and Sharp for Yandle and Vermette? I'll toss in a 1st as well.

They're allowed to exceed the cap by 10% to sign people but have to be back under the cap by the start of the season. There are players on the roster who can go away this summer. If this is all we're doing, it doesn't feel good. Addition by subtraction can only take you so far when Iginla, Vanek, and Spezza are all coming to your division.

Mark McNeill and a pick (or Versteeg) for Vermette would be wonderful. What have the Coyotes done to compete today? sign Joe Vitale? Hah!

I don't think much could make you happier than the NHL announcing the contraction or relocation north of the Coyotes, Hurricanes, and Panthers. I'll allow the Lightning to stay as they appear to be professionally run with a solid following now that the two yahoos were bounced.

Flames sign useless lunkhead Deryk Engelland because of course they would.

Hawks got hit with a $60,000 penalty for this year, probably from Saad/Shaw performance bonuses pushing them over last year's cap. But that's really not a big deal; the Bruins got hit with $4,779,500. Yeeeeeowch.

Hot damn! Brad Richards! Now we're talking!

1 year, $2MM. Versteeg out?

Public opinion seems to be divided, leaning toward angry, but I think it just might work. Maybe playing with Sharp and Kane will reinvigorate him.

So we're looking aaaaat...

Saad - Toews - Hossa
Sharp - Richards - Kane
Bickell - Smith - Shaw
Morin - Regin - Kruger

I really, really like that. Of course, this lineup is presuming that it's Versteeg who goes to make this fit and not Oduya. Hawks went back over the cap in signing Regin.

Why? He wasn't horrible in New York. In his 3 years he achieved .72 PPG. His contract was horrible but his performance was same old regression from age. Grabbing him on a one year flyer for 2 million is a great bargain. I'd much rather do this than have Stastny for 28/4.

I think people were just grumbling until they found out what a pay cut he's taking to come here. It's really hard to dislike this deal. Sure, I wanted Vermette, but I'm perfectly happy with Richards and the 50ish points he'll give us from the second line and the power play. Might even let us slide Teravainen's contract another year, too.

Panthers keep up the clownshoes signings, 8.5/2 for a 37-year-old man named Willie.

Someone signed Brooks Prpik to $27M for 5 years. That floor is something.
