The shootout spin-o-rama is dead, overtime will change, goalies will have more room to maneuver behind the net and divers will have to pay the price.

Those are among the rules that will go in effect for the 2014-15 NHL season, according to the league.

The spin-o-rama whirling penalty shot move had been a topic of controversy because the rules state that a shootout attempt was over if a player stopped his forward movement. Eliminating the move gets rid of the ambiguity, though it will cut out a staple of highlight-reel films.

The move is also now forbidden during in-game penalty shots.

Does it really matter how the guy with the puck makes his move to the net? Just set a clock of 10 seconds, and let the shooter do whatever he wants.

The spin rule will affect Kane I guess. The flop rule if they really enforce it will kill Crosby.

Gary Bettman strikes again. Good idea to take the skill & entertainment out of the shootout. How in the hell are they going to make this judgement call?

Well, if a guy moves backward or stops, it counts as a miss. It's not an outrageous judgment call, it's just shitty that they took away the allowance for spin-o-ramas. This hurts Kane, whose best shootout moves are the ones where he's just on the edge of stopping.

Let's hope that there are fewer shootouts overall with the long change in overtime. The Hawks seem to lead the league in games that go to a shootout every year, except that year when the Panthers took every fucking game to the shootout and won their division with like 30 wins or something.

Maybe people would hate the shootout less if teams weren't so satisfied with sitting on a tie and taking their chances on the second standings point. All games should be zero-sum and there should be no ties. If you want to throw out shootout wins for the purpose of breaking a tie in the standings, fine, but games should be won or lost, no in between. With this in mind, perhaps teams would try harder to win games in the third or overtime.

Good call by the league. It doesn't make sense within the rule that a guy can stop and spin with the puck. Get that shit the fuck outta here.

The rule never allowed for stoppage.

You were never allowed to stop. But these spin moves that these guys do not only has them come to complete stop, but then also has them move backwards with the puck. You might as well just put a steel rod on top of each net for the shootouts so the goalies can take it and shove it up their own ass.
