Why are they skipping the 5 minute 4 on 4? Kind of crazy to just go to 3 on 3 right out of the gate.

Doesn't matter. Still a shootout after. Also, they should get rid of OTL points.

Why not 2 on 2 where they line up on one goal line and have to try to get the puck to stop on the far blue line.

So then do you play 3 on 2 if there is an OT penalty?

Hows about an overtime faceoff where the puck is laid at the red line on the Road defensive zone and one player from each team races down ice at it allowing full contact.

How about extending games if there's a penalty within the last two minutes?

They should also add land mines on the ice like those Mutant League games back during Sega.

I do like that suggestion. I hate that someone can goon it up in the final seconds of overtime with no repercussions.

Need to find my source but the league wanted to do the AHL procedure from this year, 4 minutes of 4-4 then 3 of 3-3 and the NHLPA wouldn't bite.

Completely farcical. More fodder for people to mock the NHL.

Starting with you, "hockey fan".

This is an attempt to reduce the number of shootouts. Which you hate, remember?
Can you imagine Kane/Teuvo/Keith with all that room on the ice???
Or Toews/Hossa/Hammer on the 2nd "line"?
Or some combination of all of those?
Yes please!

Gimme that over guys doing penalty shots over and over again. Less farcical than the current set up.

Will this be in effect for the playoffs as well or just regular season?

No way this would be for playoffs.

Playoff hockey is about the best thing in sports as it is. This is all about reducing the number of shootouts.

More I think about it, is this a serious question?
Or did I miss a joke?

The same rules should apply in the regular season & the playoffs.

I'd love to see next goal wins but that's too many minutes.

Next goal wins is exactly what OT should be.

No. The NFL OT rules are a joke too.

Spaulding just told you why the rules can't be the same.

Got a better way?

It's going to end up being even more conservative than 4-on-4 was. More margin for error will mean players being overcoached into oblivion.

Maybe.
But also a lot more open ice/room for error/creativity.

You can't have both ways, either more shootouts or more games decided on the ice without completely destroying players/teams.
They are NOT going back to ties, so, like I asked scorehead, do you have a better way?

Yes. You play until the next goal is scored.

You want playoff style, 5-on-5, next goal wins?

You do realize these guys play back-to-back nights multiple times throughout the year? Or they play 3 games in 5 nights, like, a lot?

You don't mean this. I mean, you probably do, but then you don't actually realize this is a contact sport. Or something.
