Goal.com has a story on-line about a couple of designated player possibilites for the Chicago Fire. One is German international and ex-Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack and Ivory Coast international and current Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

With the lack of goal-scoring being evident with Drogba being on African Cup of Nations duty (A 1-1 Draw at Swansea and ur goal is on a own goal), I cant imagine Chelsea would let Drogba go let alone to the USA.

I once heard a rumor. I believe the team was called the "Fire" or something like that.

The Fire would not take either of them (not that they shouldn't). To this point, the Fire management has decided that placating their fan base with their designated players is more important than getting name recognition. Therefore, the Fire will sign some sort of Latin American player or Polish national.

Drogba would be a nice addition, though.

Michael Ballack? That's a guy with tons of miles on him. I'd take Drogba in a second and would actually start going to Fire games. Didier would get at least 25 goals if he played a whole season. Pipe dream to be fair.
