FIFA's campaign to get the USA more interested in soccer succeeds, at least among US law enforcement agencies:

While I dont dispute the illegal dealings of FIFA....does FBI have that Jurisdiction? is it only because a US corp bribed them?

BF, I was also surprised to learn that the feds could have them arrested in Switzerland and set to extradite them.

Well I saw they REQUESTED it and in the past, Switzerland hasnt honored such requests, usually to protect its reputation as the safe haven of $$$, so the deposits keep coming in. This might be looked at in a different way.

And while I unerstand the charges of American company involvement, are the going to trace the Russian and Qatar monies and bribes?

Something about the wire transfers to the head office in/around Miami (?) going through the USA in some form or fashion, thus (apparently) opening the door for applicable jurisdiction ... maybe uncle RICO makes an appearance?

i love the bulletpoints from the daily mail article on this

Two separate investigations have been launched into FIFA corruption
Seven football officials were arrested on Wednesday by Swiss police
FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb among those detained in 6am raid
American case involves bribes 'totalling more than $150m (£97m)' linked to deals in North and Latin American dating back to the 1990s
FBI director says 'illegal payments, kickbacks and bribes' were common
Criminal proceedings also launched into award of 2018 & 2022 World Cups
Electronic data and documents also seized in raid on FIFA headquarters
FIFA confirm Friday's presidential election will go ahead as planned
Sepp Blatter is expected to win a fifth term in office

His election opponent Prince Ali: 'This is a sad day for football'

it makes you wonder if sepp flipped on these guys and made them a bahind the scenes deal that after their jail sentences they'll dip into the fifa billions and look out for their families. i mean how can you have the vice pres on down get 7 people popped for corruption and the president is just gonna walk into his 5th term? i guess that's why this nonprofit was able to commission a hollywood/ish movie about their humble altruistic origins, eh?

I think it's because most all of the misdealings/bribes with corporate sponsors took place on American soil.

Also, the main stool pigeon, Chuck Blazer, maintained residence in NYC, including an extra apartment in Trump Tower just for his cats:

When did the pronunciation of Qatar change from "kuh-TAR" to "CUTter"?

Is this one of those dipshit changes like when Brokaw (et al) tried to change the pronunciation of harrassment to avoid saying 'ass" on the public airwaves, or is this more akin to the "proper" way the folks over there would say it?

It's supposed to be truer to Arabic's version of received pronunciation, though I understand the Qatari pronunciation is actually closer to "gutter," which is almost too good to be true.

This is a total Kansas City Shuffle. The sites won't change for the next two world cups. Blatter will still be running FIFA. People will continue to get bribed. Workers will continue to die in Qatar while making white elephants.

I love that FIFA has $1.5 BILL in reserve! lol

And then these bastards that vote get bribes!

Why not just pay the voting board $1 mill each or some insane number to review the sites. Sounds like an awesome gig. Travel to 4 international sites each year to judge their ability to host a Wolrd Cup?

Can they knock off worrying about the fact that Americans(with too much money) were out bribed by a group that followed the Russians' lead and focus on Jamie Dimon and the really dangerous criminals who run the too big to fail banks???

Just sayin'

Kotter can't host the World Cup. Either the U.S. will get it back or it'll go down under to Aussieland and they'll play to empty stadiums

Using actual slave labor to build stadiums is the biggest issue or should be.

Doing it that way would've saved the Ricketts a shipload of money ...

Never going to happen. Ever. Jamie Dimon and Chase paid $20 bill in fines in the past 2 years and he still has a job, they still make tons of money and all is good...even though only 62% of shareholders just voted for his $20 Mill bonus this year, down from 78% in the past approving his $20 M in salary.

And as Jamie stated..."I havent got any bonus since 2011 for $ 7M" Break out the violins!

Herr Blatter is distancing himself: "I can't monitor everyone all of the time." Sponsors are "disappointed."

Loud voices are having big discussions in important rooms.
