Probably. But, I really don't feel like getting hit from 100 different directions by Cubbie Nation.

The Clippers, Lions, and Cubs are the holy trinity of bad in professional sports. They set the bar.

It depends on how you look at thi, FF.

In terms of winning the Cubs are on the shit list for sure. In terms of being popular and making money, the Cubs are near the top of the lists of 'best' in sports.

Also, you'd have to specify Since 1945

All time, the Cubs are ahead of many teams in both Winning pct and WS titles

They could, but that nickname is usually reserved for the franchise with the most titles in their sport, so it'd be kinda silly. It'd be like the Tampa Bay Buccs calling themselves Title Town.

Then that settles is; Pittsburgh, PA- TITLETOWN USA!

But Pittsburgh doesn't. Not even in 2nd place. They just have the most titles since 1967. Green Bay has the most championship teams in NFL history. These are the facts, and they are undisputed.

The NFL title is the Superbowl. There is no more Champioship game. Therefore, most super bowls = Titletown. These are the facts, and they are undisputed.

You are wrong. Youre either lying or you think the nfl didn't exist before 1967.

It would be like if the World Series changed its name in 1995 or whenever the WC was added and then you tried claiming that every champion before 1995 didn't exist. Willful ignorance at its finest.

No it wouldn't. It would be like if the National League only played eachother and called that the World Series, and then in 1945 they started playing against the AL in the Series.

Pittsburgh= Titletown= Most Super Bowl.

Agreed. And the format now requires the champion to win playoff games. That's the object. I don't understand how on one hand many fans say "all that matters is winning a championship" and on the other that "the playoffs are a crapshoot". How do you square those two beliefs? Weren't the 2008 Cubs as good as they could be? Of course you know they weren't. That's why you were disappointed in them. They didn't get unlucky in the playoffs. They got beat.

And context does matter. That's why I pointed out the difference between the Red Sox of the late 40s and the 50s White Sox. Those Red Sox teams were probably the best. Their losses were a disappointment. How could a fan be disappointed in the White Sox failing to beat the best team ever? The late 40s Yankees, on the other hand, were vulnerable. DiMaggio and Charlie Keller were getting old quick. The Red Sox really had the better teams. But the Yankees managed to beat them. I think the Browns beat them once and the one time that Red Sox group did make the World Series, they lost- I believe to the Cardinals. That's a disappointment.

Back to the '08 Cubs and Sox. The 2008 Cubs are seen as a failure. That Sox team is universally beloved by fans. Why? Context. Right or wrong, the feeling is that that Sox team did as much as it could. It would have been a surprise had they beaten Tampa Bay. They just weren't as good. The Cubs were supposed to be the best team in the NL, maybe in baseball. How do you feel about that team as a fan? Fond memories or bitterness? Context is important.

I think regular season is usually a better way of judging the teams

I don't think the playoffs are completely random or a crapshoot but its such a small sample there's a better chance weird things will happen than over 162 games. You can say that happens in other sports but i think the other sports playoffs do a better job of weeding out the lesser teams.

But I love the playoffs. And I don't share Bernstein belieffect that its title or complete failure so I don't have to square that belief

Maybe I've done a poor job explaining my position but I never meant the playoffs were just luck. Like I said its just a little more prone to that than 162

Its weird youre seemingly devaluing the importance of the regular season but that's the crux of your argument that the White Sox were a good franchise

It'd be interesting to see what teams' records are since 1992.

I'm not someone who thinks that a team that won 90 games finishing second is the same as the team that lost 100 games. There's something to be said for consistent excellence. I don't think Florida winning a couple World Series amongst many horrible losing seasons trumps the Braves winning fifteen divisions in a row. That said, the object is to win the World Series. If Billy Beane's shit doesn't work for that task, maybe he needs to find some new shit.

But you remember that team as a disappointment. I guarantee Frank remembers the '08 Sox as a success even though your team won more regular season games and they both bowed out in the first round. Perception does count for something. Feelings can't be wrong.

I'm pretty sure the crux of his argument is that building a team to win regular season games isn't the same as building a team to win postseason games and that sabr people conveniently ignore that concept.
