Haven't heard of one existing in maybe twenty years.

There was a Pondorosa on Eola Road near Rt, 59 in Naperville until it closed about 1 year ago.

Pondos are bad.

According to their web site, there are only two left. One in Gary and one in Crown Point.

If you are talking about the chinese buffet at 75th & Lemont Rd in Lemont, in the same parking lot as the Home Run Inn Pizza, yea, that's a good one.

There's a Hy-Vee in DeKalb now? Isn't there a Schnuck's now, too? When did DeKalb turn into Missouri?

I'll echo the Hy-Vee Chinese buffet, which I patronized a few times when I was down around Jefferson City last year. Ate them out of house and home for just $6.

I can sort of echo Sinicalypse's experiences with Old Country Buffet in terms of starving oneself in preparation for some world championship eating and subsequent world championship shitting, but without the pot. Back in high school, we'd go up to La Crosse and Eau Claire for jazz band competitions. I would eat like a bird on Friday, and then on one magical Saturday morning, binge on fried steak. Some of my best performances were fueled by OCB fried steak. So bad, so good.

Pondos are bad.

Still there, just not called a Ponderosa anymore. The owner had apparently been trying for years to get the place out of the control of any Ponderosa rules and regulations. That being said, I have never eaten there, and a Golden Corral opened just down the street from it so its days may be numbered anyhow.

Looks like Old Country Buffet has closed some locations in Illinois....Naperville and Joliet are on the list. Seems the company filed for bankruptcy.

Just back from Osaka buffet.Wow.At least 15 raw and 15 cooked sushi options.Design your own stir fry.A normal Chinese buffet.A Hibachi grill area. All this for $10.I ate that in sushi alone on my first trip. Will definatly go again, the only thing I got to do is learn what's in some of the rolls I ate.

10 bucks for lunch...that's well worth a return trip, methinks.

I've found sushi at most buffet places is awful. Glad your experience was different.

Thank you for spelling it out! I wouldn't have been able to find the humor in his statement otherwise! You're a sporting chap.

While we are updating this thread, this place did indeed close down and the Golden Corral is doing very well.

I recommend Braconi's lunch in Naperville for a pizza buffet... they usually have about three pizza's up at any given time, two pastas, a few salads, and some desserts. The Chicken Caesar pizza is really good... also there's some older lady there that will give you backrubs and sit with you and talk shop/news/weather.

I don't know if the Golden Corrals in your area are any different, but they've really become the Walmart of buffets in these parts...all you can eat of mediocre to decent food and the people watching is superb.

I still wish Golden Corral was like it used to be though and you could actually order off a menu and go to the buffet/salad bar.

I thought all buffets were the WalMart of buffets.
