I think in 2 or 3 years Floyd will be a pretty good player. And maybe that suits the timeline.

My beef is with trading a 4th and passing on Tunsil.

Granted, Tunsil looks like he probably didn't interview too well. But, he will play, every down, for a decade.

Last year's 1st round pick didn't play a down. This year's 1st round pick looks to be a situational player next year. Not sure if that's meatball.

And to give Pace credit, Floyd doesn't seem to be injured.

One thing I did notice, and I'm channeling my inner-Danny-Mac here, is that this man is utterly bereft of ass. They showed him at his place in Atlanta when he was picked, and he had the pants-falling-off-the-ass thing going on. He actually pulled them up on camera, but you can tell there wasn't much resistance in the pants-raising process.

I remember that's the first thing Mac said about Shea. He went on and on about his lack of derriere the morning after that draft.

I would be lying if I claimed to have much clue about Floyd or any of the other college players. From everything I've read from posters here and the draft "experts" it appears that he was high on the draft board for athleticism and I absolutely cannot stand that. Combine times mean zero when you look at their play on the field.

On the other side of the equation, other mock drafts did have the guy at 9 or 10, so obviously many felt this kid would be a good NFL player.

I think Pace could have drafted better but will wait and see on Floyd. At #9, he has to contribute and play THIS season. If he doesn't, then he messed up. He's already at an F for drafting White and him not seeing the field at all in 2015. Maybe I'll feel differently if White comes out this season and is a stud.

The Tunsil stories on weed remind me of Terrell Suggs. I'm pretty sure that guy went on to have a nice career. Like others, I wouldn't have passed on Tunsil...regardless of the weed.

The trading up seems to be the issue though.

As in, were we completely screwed if the Giants took him? Better be a home run for that.

On the plus he can play WR if White can't go again. That was his name, wasn't it?

OK so they like his speed. But they want to add some 30 lbs of muscle to him.
What does this do to the asset he was drafted for?

He's going to play. I predict 6.5 sacks.

For whatever it is worth, Todd McShay rated the Bears pick as one of the best moves of the draft. I think this is a who knows? Trust Fangio to make it work.

I think he will be a 6-8 sack type of player in his career. That is not a buster but it isn't great either.

In my opinion, you had the option of picking great in Tunsil.

The most flattering comments I've seen have been from Mike Mayock:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... k-analysis

9. Chicago Bears: Leonard Floyd, LB, Georgia
Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was in San Francisco when it drafted Aldon Smith. Floyd is very similar. He is one of the most polarizing conversations in the entire draft. He has a 'wow' get-off and he bends like Gumby. I don't know if he can convert speed to power in that pass rush. He has the best burst and get-off in this entire draft. He's a sub-package, designated pass rusher on Day 1, just like Aldon Smith was in San Francisco.

If they are looking for an excellent get-off, I should have gone Top 5.

Uhhhhhh...it keeps getting WORSE!

About 2-3 weeks ago I did like him a lot at 11. In fairness to the kid, Georgia had a completely directionless defense that had the kid almost position-less while there. Anything UGA did was based more on raw talent than anything. I don't really think it is fair to rely on his stats given that Mark Richt really didn't have a consistent plan, as evidenced by his average team performances and subsequent firing. I really did love what I saw at the combine & unlike John Thierry, he isn't a small college player who will be in over his head in the NFL. The speed and bend were clear from watching him play in Athens. As he gets a little older I firmly believe that he'll get much stronger & under Fox/Fangio, he'll get coached up well.

But, with Tunsil & Paxton Lynch there, I would've taken either of them before Floyd & hoped that Ogbah lasted to the round two pick. With the defensive needs & quality coaches, I wouldn't be bothered by the 4th rd pick...except as to question Pace's going for the okey-doke. Then again, I don't think it was his pick either.

Bill Polian on S&W thinks Floyd is a perfect pick for the Bears. He said he can play OLB and DE and once he learns how to rush the passer from that position and develops a catalog of moves, he will do very well.

So, all he has to do is learn those things.

Easy!

Seeing as he'll be 24 before the season starts he should have learned all that by the time he's about 28 or 29 and all that "freakish athleticism" was withered away.

Yeah, that's another thing I don't like about this pick.

While also remaking his body from that of a smallish NBA forward to that of an NFL player at a position/s expected to take on massive human beings who live in weight rooms.

I have no idea if the kid will turn out or not.

I just think that if they were hellbent on trading that fourth round pick, that 11 & 32 (or 13, 32, and 107 if they didn't like 11 and wanted to trade down to Miami), was a better match than 9 & 41 for what they need between front 7 and OL.

Just curious: In this draft, with the Bears' needs, would you rather have:

- Picks 11, 41, 72 (what the Bears had at 7pm yesterday), or
- Picks 25, 28, 32 (which would have required several trades)

They score out the same on the draft chart (1970).

Don't tell me that Floyd is better than Emmanuel Ogbah DE taken by Cleveland early in the 2nd.

Ogbah looks like a great player. Has the quickness, strength and technique to play day one unlike our guy.

Bears are the worst, giving up two players for Floyd and not taking Ogbah.

How's Clay Matthews as a comp? I was curious about it, so I looked him up. He, too, was a late-bloomer. Didn't start until the 3rd game of his Senior season, had 4.5 sacks. Ran a bit slower than Floyd on the 40, weighed about the same, and is a bit shorter.

The White Sox will be playing in October, so you won't have to worry about the Bears first 8 gsmes, and then week 9 is thier bye, and by then it's the Holidays.
