Those are two distinctly different things. I thought we were arguing talent. Baseball takes the most talent. It takes the least amount of athleticism. Basketball takes the most amount of both to play.

Hockey requires a high level of hand eye coordination like baseball coupled with physical contact and having to skate around on ice. I don't think any other sport comes close to the level of talent needed to play professional hockey.

Jordan picked up a bat and went to the minors. Tebow picked up a bat and went to the minors. They were never going to be in the MLB but they could hang with other pros. No other athlete from another league is jumping over to the AHL and going to be able to hang.

maybe Tom Glavine and that's about it, but he was at one time a second round pick of the LA Kings.

Give LeBron six months to learn how to skate and he would destroy the whole NHL

I don't think it's the skating part that needs six months of practice.

He'll learn the rest of it on the job

He gets brushed up against during a rebound and he drops like he got shot with a sniper rifle. The first time some dipshit like Torres took a run at him he would be out for the season.

He's pretty much never been injured. That wouldn't change. I'm not sure he can be injured. He's LeBron Cage.

 Do you honestly think it only takes 6 months to become a proficient NHL skater from scratch? He wouldn't be able to do that in 6 years, let alone 6 months. I don't think you understand how hard it is to skate at a high level.

Put Lebron on skates for 5 years and even I would destroy in on the ice.

case in point, I play in a league vs Hunter Hillenmeyer. Obviously, not a Lebron talent. But, he's a former pro athlete who actualy had a hockey background growing up. Learned to skate as a kid and played some hockey growing up before giving it up for football. Went back to hockey after retiring. He's been playing every week for about 5 years now and he has definitely improved and is a very fast skater north and south, but even after 5 years he lacks even what I would consider basic edge work skills. I'm 46 years old, have had 7 spine surgeries and I can still skate circles around Hillenmeyer despite his improvements.

LeBron is an incredible athlete, but I don't know if he has the same set of skills that translate to the skating and precision of hockey. It seems like those would take years of refinement- and you would likely have to grow up doing it.

I have to agree with this. LeBron could not play at an NHL level and he wouldn't hold up to the contact

exactly, there are no skills in any sport that translate over to ice skating. Its the kind of thing that unless you have been doing it since you were a young child it would be nearly impossible to get good enough at it to compete with NHL players. I bet if you went through the NHL you could count on one hand the number of players that didn't start skating before the age of 8.

Spoken like a guy that just stated that LeBron James is the only shutdown guy in the league. He isn't even top 5 or 10 at this stage when it comes to that.

You look at the mock drafts prior to the start of their freshman year. It rarely changes after the conclusion of their freshman season.

These guys already know where they are going to be drafted and so do NBA scouts. No incentive to go hard because it may lead to injury.

Harry Giles's entire career is in jeopardy because of injuries suffered prior to playing college ball. This stuff matters.
Ok, tell me in these playoffs which player is going to significantly shut down another star player on defense besides Lebron. We can track it.

Mock drafts don't change much, though they do change some, because they are based on potential and that potential is unlikely to change in 6 months.

It doesn't matter though. If they don't want to play then sit at home for a year and then enter the NBA. It's ludicrous to think they aren't trying. It's just that players at this age are better than them.

LTG summed up: I don't watch CBB, but let me tell you all about CBB.

To be fair, that's every NBA opinion in this thread outside of mine, ltg, and db's.

Yep. Yet the opinion that college hoops is better than the NBA is somehow an unpopular take. Some guys on here disagree just to disagree.

If you think most people think college basketball is better than the NBA I will be quite happy. I've had to defend the fact that I prefer college basketball on here many times. Some even said there is "no case" that college basketball is better.

I've missed those. The NBA is bashed more than any league and basketball more than any sport.

It is sad so many NBA people get up in arms for the sin of liking college basketball better. Enjoy your playoffs. I sure enjoyed ours.

That's why this argument is dumb. No one cares to define what they're arguing for. Skill? Athleticism? Talent? They're all different things with different parameters depending on who you talk to.

One thing is undeniable, though... you and I are amazingly talented.

Put Lebron on skates from the time he was born like the rest of these toothless dropouts, and he'd absolutely destroy them. He is 6'9", 260 pounds of solid muscle, for Christ sake. It'd be like watching Wilt dominate short white guys.

Yes and no. Yes, I agree that as amazing an athlete as Lebron is, he would be great at any sport he focused on as a youth including hockey. But, dominating like Wilt is a different story since we are talking about a sport where height doesn't matter. A 6'8 guy on skates may be a great power forward or defenseman, but they are going to have a hard time making the kind of plays in traffic that a smaller player closer to the ice can make. Unless they are Mario Lemieux, and he topped out at 6'6.

Basketball vs hockey threads like this one are really tiring for those of us that have a history of following both sports. At least until I was made to pick a side by MANY
