I just thought it was a poor redneck thing. I guess we were just multicultural   I'm learning a lot today!

American cheese is a particular kind of cheese, in that the main ingredient is "American Cheese".
All the other stuff is pasteurized cheese product, or some shit. THAT'S the nauseating orange shit that is mostly
oil. Go to any grocery store, and even the store brands (Roundy's, Food Club), if the ingredient list names "American Cheese"
as the primary ingredient, i.e. the first ingredient listed, it's the real thing.
For my money, I go to the deli and ask for "Land O' Lakes American Cheese".

Anyway, back on topic, I stumbled upon this recipe about 10 years ago when I used to subscribe to Saveur.
It's the closest I've ever come to replicating my grandma's recipe, which I kick myself for never getting.
This recipe is legit! P.S. the key is the cloves.

This will sound weird, but Spicy Nacho Doritos are good with a bit of spray cheese. Try it before you call me crazy.

Instead of Tuna Helper, make some Kraft Mac and Cheese with a little extra milk and butter in the mix, drain a small can of spring water tuna and mix it in and use Doritos to scoop it up like a dip.

Doritos - also good as a peanut butter and Dorito sandwich.

I like Fritos on a PBJ sandwich too, and I don't generally like Fritos.

I usually go smooth, so to speak, the Doritos provide the crunch.

Wasn't too bad except it might have been better with creamy style PB. The crunch element was hard to decipher because the nuts overtook the Doritos. However, the bouquet was magnificent...

84% of all Doritos sold are Nacho Cheese.

Doritos are dangerously delicious. Open a bag and it's difficult to put them down.

I remember reading that Saddam Hussein loved Doritos.

You want a dip that is as simple as opening a can and a package but will be a hit at a party? Can of chili with bean, brick of pepper jack, put them in a bowl and microwave for five minutes then mix thoroughly. Serve with tortilla chips. I'm telling people will be congregating around that stuff until it is gone.

You can add a small tine of chiles if the crowd likes heat or a bottle of salsa if you want it a little more fluid.

Brown 1 lb of ground beef with 1 lb of spicy pork sausage (Bob Evans or Jimmy Dean) and melt 1 lb of Velveeta into that mixture. Spread on individual cocktail rye and toast in the oven on a cookie sheet. Freezes well too.

BUT, do you know where the cheese comes from? we all know that SOME of us do know?

-Can of HORMEL chili. Good, with beans! Hot, fresh from the can!
-Blend of PEPPERJACK and COLBJACK! Grown from the cow in the ADARONDICK MOUNTAINS! That fresh,, clean mountain air gives the chedder a good sharpness
-Good salted chips.

of course I can walk into the WHOLE FOODS and by the same thing, but please, tell us your great recipies for dip!

Hanky Pankies. Those things disappear quickly at parties. Add some finely chopped onion to the mixture.

That is an under-rated condiment.

Yeah, what's up with that stuff? Is it like cocktail sauce? I'm interested, but I don't want to eat it if it tastes too close to ketchup. The smell of ketchup makes me ill.

Heinz 57 sauce is an interesting change of pace.

It's pretty close to ketchup, but it's spicier.

Due to my parents when I was young I love Heinz 57. It's best on breaded pork chops for me.
