This is a team that hasn't won back to back games in 3 weeks, and hasn't won back to back road games since April, and all of a sudden they are going to play .675 ball for 2 and a half months? I mean, Quintana is pretty good but he ain't that good.

Everybody else is.

It's an underachieving team that got a vote of confidence. Something a young team, or any team, needs.

50-24

Isn't it a little early to start in on the Tito's?

If we are being serious here I just don't see how this happens without adding another quality starter. Their pitching even after this trade just isn't very good.

I'd believe 24-50 over 50-24. You'd need both Lester and Hendricks to return to 2016 level and then basically everyone that is slumping has to get out at the same time. Not happening. They are a .500 team. That's about where they will finish. Maybe less now they have Quintana.

Their bullpen still feels like a dumpster fire waiting to happen.

There's a reason that Madden ran Chapman into the ground....

The bullpen has been the only bright spot.

Yeah, I was gonna say I think the bullpen is fine. The rotation has been upgraded from disaster to just not good.

I've spoken to two different ticket execs on two different days who unrelated to my actual call said the Cubs should end up with Verlander.

What are they going to give up to make this happen?

If they agree to take on all the salary that's going to be as important as any prospect they could get.

good question...my assumption is they're getting Avila too. I really don't know. Gotta be about money.

If they come out of this deadline period with Q and Verlander and keep major league roster in tact then my optimism increases greatly

Absolutely. Q , Verlander, Lester, Jake , Hendricks is a marked improvement over the
1-5 shitshow they currently trot out there . Whether that would translate into wins is another story but it certainly gives them a better chance .

Sounds like Dr. Ken's friend made it bake safely from Colorado with the edibles...I think they'll make the playoffs but they're not gong to win at a 68% clip....they'd have to win every series for the rest of the season.

Just checking in.

How are things going in here?

They don't have to win every series. Just tear off an 8-win streak or 9 of 11 (a couple times) and things look better.

This is new Cubs wisdom. Stop being doubters. That is the passed.

I think 42-32 is more likely. That would put them at 85-77 and I think they can win the division with that.

Baseball Prospectus projects the Brewers to beat the Cubs by a game, Brewers at 85, Cubs at 84. But that is based on performance to date, and the trade deadline will change all of that, including making some wins easier as NL teams start selling to AL teams fighting for the second wild card spot.

The bigger question is where are the Dodgers going to finish? They're fucking 61-29 right now, and BP has them winning 105 games.

What the fuck have they done this year to make you think they can play 10 over baseball the rest of the way?
