Unless Davis is hurt, I cannot imagine how he can say he isn't available tonite. 6 out save last night be dammed. There is no tomorrow if you lose. You get your ass out there and pitch to 2 or 3 batters if the team needs it.

Except they did that with Chapman last year, and he looked horrible at the end. Davis hasn't been lock down in the playoffs either. The entire bullpen has been shaky.

Right, but Chapman still took the ball and gave it what he had. I'm not saying throw Davis as much as you did Champman last year, but damn if the Cubs have a 1 run lead in the 9th and they need Davis to get the final 2 outs he needs to be ready to take the ball.

I get that mentality. But everyone just assumes by throwing your best guy out there, he is prepared to get the job done. When he doesn't, then you blame the manager for putting a guy in a position he is not accustomed to, which in this case would be there innings in two days.

I would piggy back Q/Lester tonight and then go with Hendricks Game 6 and Arrietta game 7.

You are a dope. Maddon using him for 2 full innings, which means he would not be as effective as they would need him to be if used tonight. A guy like Pedro Strop would be a better option. Not because he is the better pitcher, but because he is both good, and he is rested enough to be able to perform at his best. The key tonight is that Quintana goes between 6-7 innings. If he can hold the Dodgers to 1-2 runs over 6 or more, the Cubs have a great chance.

Yea, even though he would be up for Game 6, I think Lester closes tonight if needed.

Your entire rebuttal would have been fine without calling him a dope.

Strop it!, please just stop the insanity. I understand the few brain cells you have left from sniffing paint are wasted trying to remember the phone number to Waddle and Silvy, but please Steve, Just hit delete after you type your thoughts on the board!

WTF :x   Strop should not even be on a NLCS championship roster, let alone called upon to close out an elimination game!!!!!

He still took the ball, didn't he? He didn't say, "I'm not available today."

Try again.

No, you're going to be the first guy laughing over breakfast and blaming Maddon for bringing in Davis tonight if Davis is gassed and gives it up.

I'm saying if the need arises, and there is nobody else, Davis has to be ready to go. Even if its for one batter, or 15 pitches. You can't give the ball to Lackey over Davis in a save situation.

It is simply baffling to me that in a win or go home game that anybody (who isn't hurt) would be unavailable.

I bet Arrieta would come in tonite for a short stretch if it was a long extra inning game.

Strop has looked OK this posteseason. So has Duensing. Edwards has had more shitty outings than good but he CAN look good. You have bullpen options. I just don't want to see Montgomery or Rondon.

I'm sure he would take the ball if asked to. He won't be asked to. His arm and body need their recovery time after that kind of workload. You can hop him up and get him out there but he is going to be terrible. His legs will be tired and his arm will not be right. He can barely throw strikes as it is. You put him out there tonight and it will be walk and hr city.

Look up his numbers, Strop has been good this postseason.

A complete game from Q would fit the bill nicely.

Davis should only pitch if he's going to be effective.
You guys are arguing past each other.

Davis wasn't effective last night, dude threw half his pitches for balls. It's time for someone else tonight. Time for a new hero. Time for Justin Wilson to go two innings and be a strike thrower.

If Davis has to come in, the game is over.

So you didn't look up his numbers. By all means, keep the unfunny gifs coming though.

Small sample size (5.1 innings), but Strop has the lowest batting average against and whip of any pitcher on the roster this postseason

'Good' is as far as I could be talked into as far as he's concerned. If he's on, he's great. But Strop seems to be the embodiment of 'variance'. Your point still stands, however.

I looked up the numbers Hank and have watched this bum pitch for a couple years. He is C.Marmol 2.0. Has a nasty slider with poor control. If batters are not swinging at his slider outside the zone, then his numbers spike up. So far he has pitched 5.1 innings with 3 walks and 1 strikeout (which I believe was a pitcher). Maddon bails him out when he gets into trouble. He is a one trick pony and if his slider isn't A+ for the night, he WILL get lit up. Do you even watch the games or just look at the box scores?

How stupid is Cubbie nation that they are calling for P.Strop to close out a championship game?
