Honest answer: while I hate when dudes make a big show out of appreciating and analyzing disposable pop music, even I have to admit Teenage Dream was loaded with hits. The title track is probably my favorite.

Taylor Swift's songs have only been good when Ryan Adams covers them.

I don't think that's true. Taylor has a lot of good pop songs and she wrote them herself. I don't know who writes Katy Perry's stuff, Dr. Luke and Tricky maybe. Anyway, Pink can actually sing and she's more doable than either of them.

Pink links like Tyrion Lannister's lost sister, and all of her songs reek of her subsequent inferiority complex, which has resultingly made her militant.

Hot for a smushed-in faced midget, ok, but she's not in any Big Gal's league.

Big Gal's League? You're on here promoting Taylor Swift. She plays in the Chipmunk Division with Anna Kendrick.

Taylor Swift is hot if you're into mannequins or the very early drafts of Japanese sex robots.

Katy Perry is much more attractive. Neither of them make good music.

As far as bubble gum pop, which is the genre they're in, they both made catchy songs for tween girls and and women who have recently been dumped.

that was too many words with the totally wrong conclusion

I'll answer the headline "Why Taylor Swift Doesn’t Have a Hit" more concisely:

Answer: The songs suck.

So their basis is she isn't black and hip hop enough to chart anymore? Never mind that her latest album just sucks.

I wasn't necessarily drawing the same conclusions as the author as to why, i was only looking at the fact that her singles and album are tanking

Soundcloud rappers are something that Writerly Writers are very into discussing on Twitter, so it's no surprise. I shouldn't know who Fetty Wap is, but that's the only reason I do.

Justin Charity is pretty bad usually and that article was no exception. Swift's music has become increasingly hip hop influenced anyway; hell she's even trying to rap on the verses of "Ready for It." While I'll grant that hip hop may be more popular than it was a few years ago on pop radio, turning this into some kind of morality play where Swift is a stand-in for being out of touch is a stretch to say the least.

Also this comment on ILX about how much dumb analysis gets devoted to Swift's references and implicit politics made me chuckle:

Lol That is a bullshit hit-piece written by Katy Perry's grandmother.

Over a 1.4 Million copies in 1st 4 days, making it 2017's top selling album so far. Most sold in 1st 4 days since Adele's last album in 2014. Her 1989 album sold 1.29 in same span. Only failure here is the failure to be a failure..

The album thing is wrong, agree with Blu Bombay on that.

Her single is struggling compared to previous ones like "Shake it Off"

She's on the way down, 1989 was the peak.

I don't see it.

'Look What You Made Me Do' is STILL being played in heavy regular rotation, and it was first launched August 24, 2017, almost 3 months ago.
