Replaying way too much shit, they need to add another 100 songs to their lineup and hit shuffle.

Plus one.

I mean, just how much Fat Joe merits heavy rotation?

Yeah, I left it on in the kitchen for 2 days. Everybody loved it, now we are all done with it. You should check out Vocalo, 91.1.

90s / 2000s are now oldies? Damn. What should the 50s/60s songs be called now? Ancients?

i feel the first album is pretty underrated. It's solid front to back, not just OPP. Strike a Nerve has some great rhymes
Unfortunately it was all downhill from there

Not slow jammy enough! Where are "On Bended Knee," "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss," "Sukiyaki," "I Can Love You Like That," and "Kiss from a Rose"? Or THE slow-dance song of my middle school years, "All My Life" by K-Ci and JoJo?

Ive turned it on twice for like 4 songs and both times Bump and Grind came on.

That's been my experience with "Too Close," the song for when bumping and grinding goes wrong. And how has "Baby Got Back" not been played?

If they're trying to go after people who grew up with B96 qua B96, that period from 1992-1997 when it was programmed as distinctly dance/R&B/rap, they still have a long way to go. And that is the way to go: like I said, their imaging is all about celebrating Chicago as the place that gave the world Oprah, the Bulls, and Obama, and not just a lazy synecdoche for gun violence. (They aren't using the word "synecdoche.") That's cool, and I'm sure 'GCI must have had a good run in the '90s (they owned the books in the Arbitron diary era), but everyone who cares about radio knows B96 was one-of-a-kind for a while before settling into rhythmic-top-40 purgatory. And as luck would have it, hey, they're your sister station! You can probably pull the Max-a-Million and 20 Fingers CDs right off their shelf.

EDIT: if the callsign swap from Boston comes through, it's gonna be funny to watch a B96/WGCI nostalgia trip call itself WBMX to compete with the actual WGCI and V103, which was the actual WBMX, which was snuffed out by the actual B96, while a station calling itself WCKG features a programming block called "WBMX." All the while, Power 92 will continue to be #1 in the streets.

Playlist slowly getting better, finally heard "Gangsta's Paradise" and "Fantasy" this morning. Those songs were inescapable in '95, couldn't believe they weren't being thrown back to.

I wouldn't imagine during the Hot In Here era that Nelly would be doing all male concerts in the middle east 15 years later.

Have they played Warren G yet?

Every time I hear either Regulators or the Doobie Brothers cut they sampled from, I think of Bomani Jones' explanation of the song.

They play "Regulate" quite a bit but they cut off the coda and censor any words relating to guns or death. 16 in the and one in the hole, Nate Dogg is about to make some bodies turn. I always think of the Yacht Rock episode I got one of my first avatars from.

Just heard the WBMX callsign at the top of the hour. Wonder how they'll market them now.

It's a slap in the face to potential listeners above the age of 40. The real WBMX had nothing to do with hip hop

Love this station. It's become my P2 FM station, next to 101.1.

I'm sure there was some hip hop near the end of the BMX run on 102.3, but what I remember as a teenager in the late 70s and early 80s was a good mix of Motown/Philly/Stax, a little bit of crossover stuff (I thought that Michael McDonald was black for at least a year until I saw the One Step Closer LP at Rose Records) with disco thrown in mostly in the evenings.

No one with half a brain ever seriously thought Michael McDonald (or Rick Astley by the same token)
was actually black until they saw a picture or a video. It's just something people say...
