No, right now I don't believe. How many people? And for $300, what is in this limo and/or from where is it coming? I spent under $100 for a six-person limo from Arlington to ORD not too long ago.

My rule is to always book through the airline itself. I've found they treat you better that way.

In what way do they treat you better?

In recent years I booked air/hotel packages through Orbitz and Costco travel. In each case was able to add the flight reservation to my profiles on American and United, select my seats, board in my expected group, earned miles and had no issues. When I book directly with either airline I am treated no better.

You do know Arlington Heights is literally adjacent to ORD right? Anyways, the "luxury van" I was driving is a 14 pax Mercedes that's a tier or two above the six/eight pax limos. You want to know when the last time the oil was changed too?

It goes without saying that booking direct, especially internationally, leads to better treatment. United (proven assholes) moved my reservation up two days this September without any charges or argument. Im not sure they would've done that had I gone through Kayak or whatever.

How long after you made your reservation did united let you make that no-cost change? Either you changed it within 24 hours of booking (which they must let you do), you are a top-tier member of Mileage Plus, or CHF manages your travel and has you connecting through 7 cities.

I called, asked for a supervisor, explained that I didn't book it correctly to begin with and gave a bit of a sob story. They changed it without much fuss.

In this case Boeing gets to be the good guys. Pratt & Whitney built the engine.

You are complaining about planes that land safely with an engine in flames, and pilots and crew who were well trained and remained calm enough to the get plane safely back on the ground in one piece AND get everybody off the plane with no injuries?

Sheesh.

That's usually the case with an uncontained engine failure.

I was in a cessna 310 that had an engine stall out and not start back up. the pilot continued on his way like it didn't matter and we flew back to the local airport. that day i learned that a duel prop plane has redundancy every where.

I'm not really concerned, it was tongue in cheek.

the 'scare bus'. airbus uses composite fibers for lighter aircraft, which allows for one additional row of seats. this was scorned..profits over safety was argued. when an aa a300 crashed in new york after take-off, it ended up being airbus flight engineers vs. american flight engineers. the flight ran into severe wake turbulence on take-off, the co-pilot played with the rudder (as trained)..and the tail fell off. airbus argued that the co-pilot put undue stress on the rudder/tail...the opposite argument was that your aircraft are shit.

'if it's not boeing, i ain't going'. boeing deservedly getting slammed for the 737-max...a plane that is arguably design-flawed, the rushed and sloppy software, lax and lack of uniformed pilot training around the world with the software/scenarios. seems like the overall safety of airline travel bred a hubris of complacency.

i had learned that the boeing 727 was rolled during tests. imagine that, a plane flying upside down. they don't make them like they used to.

united technologies used to make aircraft engines. they got bought out by GE. now, only a few major players..GE, rolls-royce, pratt & whitney and cfm. with this united 777 incident, looks like pratt & whitney engines on 777s are under scrutiny.

The 777 has been flying for over 25 years with only no fatalities blamed on the aircraft itself. The 3 fatal incidents were a shootdown, a likely hijacking by 1 of the pilots, and a case of CFIT where Asiana pilots went too short on their approach into SFO.

I'd board any 777 without second thought.

That Asiana one pissed me off. When you hear the GPWS say "sink rate" and "pull up" on descent, you need to adjust your approach or go around.

Same for me. Was on a 25 seater or so in the African country of Chad returning from an oilfield. As we were taking off, one engine has low oil pressure and high torque readings. Pilot did a U turn and brought it back. Said we could have continued on but rules state we needed to return. Had to stay the night in a hotel where the oil company paid for rooms, food, drinks. There guys coming off of 28 days in camp so they were cutting loose. Pilot and copilot flew the plane back the next day.

I realize I am putting on a tinfoil hat here, but this is a strange "coincidence".

Quote:
Joshua Dean, a former quality auditor at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems who had flagged safety concerns and alleged misconduct by the aircraft manufacturer, died Tuesday after a sudden and severe infection.

Dean is the second Boeing-linked whistleblower to have died in the last two months as the company has come under heightened scrutiny.

Dean, who was 45 and lived in Wichita, Kan., was in good health before he began to experience trouble breathing about two weeks ago and went to a hospital, according to the Seattle Times, which first reported on his death. Dean’s deterioration from that point, his aunt told the newspaper, was “brutal” and “heartbreaking.”

Dean’s death comes less than two months after the death of Barnett, another whistleblower who had spent years warning about lax safety standards at Boeing. Barnett was found in his truck with what authorities described as an apparent “self-inflicted gunshot wound,” in Charleston, S.C., on March 9, amid depositions he was giving related to a similar alleged retaliation dispute with Boeing. An investigation remains ongoing.

Flew in a 787 from DFW to ORD yesterday. Only issue was no available gates at ORD when we landed (early). Imagine that.

I am still a BIGFAN of that plane.
