anyone have one they particularly like or don't like?

Have a Gevi entry level model that's getting long in the tooth. Plus I want to see if a better machine = better espresso.

saeco. model was an odea, best espresso machine we ever had. now, we allow starbucks to gouge us until we get a new one. it was a frequent pain in the ass to clean..had a grinder, so, grinds, stuff all over. machine lasted a long time, 6-7 years. we used it 2-3-4 times a day. we'd also buy illy coffee beans. the machine was around $800. bed, bath & beyond always has coupons, i think we got 20% off when we bought it.

600 to 800 dollars, give or take. no more than $1K. But there isn't much in the 1000 range. Seems like it jumps from around 800 to 1200 to 1600 for the next level, which is usually dual boiler.

Rancilio Silvia -- around $800, see this on the kitchen counters in a lot of barista videos on youtube. Ugly but apparently well-made. There's a 20th anniversary edition in black tho.

Breville Infuser -- around $600. Lot of online reviews recommend the Breville Barista Pro but those
have the built-in grinder. I assume the Infuser = same quality as the Baristo Pro sans
grinder.

Gaggia Classic Pro -- $500 -- tho I've seen them discounted 50 to 100 dollars, gotta catch Amazon's flash pricing and can be had for 399. These have 58 mm portafilters, so baristas like them. But the components might be cheap. Lotta reviews mention upgrading various components right out of the box but otherwise a solid machine

De'Longhi La Specialista -- $900 -- tho AMZ has one on sale for $730 https://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-EC9335R ... 08C99TKL5/

built in grinder thing turns me off but then I guess you don't need to spend another $200 to $400 on a grinder

ECM Casa V $1000 retail but a few places selling it around $750

this place has to be a scam, they are selling the above machines for mad cheap:

Rancilios for 300 below Amazon: https://old-coffee.com/24-rancilio

480 for DeLonghi La Specialista https://old-coffee.com/espresso-machine ... 9335m.html

765 for the ECM Casa V https://old-coffee.com/espresso-machine ... chine.html Tho I've seen the ECM on other sites in that price range

348 for the Breville Infuser on old-coffee dot com

270 for the Gaggia Classic Pro on old-coffee dot com

wonder if those are refurb'd or if it's a straight scam site or what

62 country code is Indonesia. Take 3 months to get it delivered, if it isn't a scam.

Probably best to stick to finding something on discount on Amazon. The De'Longhi La Specialista for $730 on amazon-- best deal currently among those machines on amz.

Yeah, that's one reason I shy away from machines with built in grinders. Plus it's another thing to fail. Like those old combo TV-VCR things. De'Longhi La Specialista at 730 on amazon is tempting tho. How much of a pain can the grinder be? I guess I could just never use it.

I have this machine and I had to upgrade components from their crappy plastic to metal ones but it only cost 50 bucks or something similar. Definitely a solid machine.

Breville usually has good products. I don't really like delonghi. One of our friends is really into coffee gator. I would never buy a Jura. You can buy a grinder separately or not. I'd look at ease of cleaning.

I have a Coffee Gator french press. Solid block of steel, you could brain somebody with it. They even included a steel grounds container, useful for storing bud.

Gaggia along with the Rancilio apparently the choice of those who know (baristsas on youtube and amazon reviewers) for home use.

Gaggia being almost half the price of the Rancilio makes it seem like a relative steal. Good to know it's only a minor expense to upgrade the components. Bonus that they don't force an integrated grinder on you.

I enjoyed how he began the thread by asking for help, then followed it up with a post suggesting that he doesn't really need any help....

i get the philosophy. like a ww2 german tiger heavy tank: over-engineered, frequent maintenance. i think that's why we just throw money at starbucks. let them descale their machines.

Should I assume espresso people are caffeine addicts? Isn't a tiny cup the same amount as a large coffee?

if you can find original asian red bull, it's a few times stronger than American red bull. Comes in little medicinal looking bottles of about 4 or 5 ounces. krating daeng

yeah, I'm not a fan of the integrated grinder although I can understand why people like it. Let me see if I can dig up the prices for the metal parts I bought. Amazon purchases are easy to dig up. EDIT: Need to do it at home. Don't know what my password is

I used to use my Gaggia every day but haven't fired it up in quite a while. I guess my taste for espresso after dinner is changing with my age...

I drank a couple of Red Bulls about 10 years ago. For about 5 hours I was confident that all of my teeth were going to fall out and I was going to have a heart attack.

I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I had a double strength 5 plus energy thing a few years back. It was from a Dollar General or something. Should not have trusted it.
