Another vote for Taxi. I’ve watched episodes recently and it is pretty amazing how well that show holds up. Very funny. The episode Reverend Jim flashes back to his days attending Harvard is awesome.

I didn't watch a lot of television outside of sports. Nothing was better than Married With Children.

I pretty much stopped watching network TV in about 2008. So my list is going to be old.

Bob Newhart
Taxi
Frasier
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (Yes it's 60 minutes but played heavily for laughs)

I liked MWC but the humor quotient dropped pretty quickly after the 3rd or 4th season.

Frasier was one of those shows I just never found funny. Frasier and Lillith on Cheers were awesome but the spinoff show did absolutely nothing for me. I know I'm in the minority on this one.

There were some misses. Al is easily my favorite television character.

You and my father are of a like mind on this and he almost never indulges in that kind of low brow humor.

I still think the greatest (and earliest) is The Dick Van Dyke Show, which, if it didn't invent the 3 camera Sitcom, it certainly perfected it. The show's writing, which was way head of its time, still stands up over half a century later...the last half of "Coast to Coast Bigmouth" is sheer brilliance

this is 4 minutes, not all of it but a nice sample

Just like that? You have an all time favorite character? Seems to me figuring that out requires heavy lifting. I'd have to go from Barney Fife to Fred Sanford to Al to Larry David and MANY in between. You can't just flippantly throw out there Al Bundy.

Reminds me of a show I thought was perfectly cast but didn't pan out: The New Odd Couple, starring Ron Glass as Felix and Demond Wilson as Oscar.

Unlike you, I wasn't alive before the television was invented. I can only make this subjective call based on my viewing experience. Al Bundy is a television God in my world.

Taxi or MASH round out the top seven for me. But I’m so old that I grew up with 6~7 channels and one of them was channel 44, spotty at best.

And I pretty much stopped watching network tv in the nineties.

Sopranos is not a sitcom.

So many good choices over the years.

All in the Family
Seinfeld
Family Ties
Cheers
Sanford & Son
Taxi
Fresh Prince
Threes Company

I don't watch any network shows anymore either. Shows like 2 Broke Girls I got up on simply from reruns but it was rather funny. I probably should have added 2 and 1/2 Men in there also. The Charlie Sheen version of the show anyway.
