I happened up on Jose Conseco in Destin, FL. was there on vacation with the family. i played alot of softball at the time and my cousin asked if i wanted to hit some balls. it was december so i'm like yeah lets get some cuts in. we went to this field and there was this dude on a back field with a few other guys just crushing a few balls into our field. like our fence was 500' away from their home plate. it was jose conseco. they were testing some companies new bats and let us hit them. cool guy.

So no one got fired?

Some of it's fear but they do sorta need one. There is a feeling of everybody is accessible so they should be too. Parents are gone more, neighborhoods aren't as involved, and they are doing things on their own about 5/6th grade. There are no pay phones anywhere. Practices end early, get canceled, I get held up and run late, whatever. I suppose they could wait but if they had a phone they could call.

We've "lost" my daughter at her dance competition and she's 8. We knew she was there and with friends but if I could have texted her to say meet us in the lobby that would have been sweet. She also got a little confused/scared one time at practice. I think she'd have been better if she knew she could call us.

I will not be okay with all the texting, facebook, and instagram accts.

Gizmo gadget looks like a good option.

come on. Your about my age, not like my parents who went out in the morning and came home for dinner. We didn't have cell phones but you didn't use pay phones? I had to check in every 4 or so hours or if we went somewhere else.

I don't think I ever checked in ever.
By the time I was 9 or 10 I was just supposed to be home when the street lights came on.
I had a calling card when I was in 8th grade. I used it once and my dad hit me for doing it.

I never got the street lights, I had to call. I think it's a little different world because we know and hear so much.

Also people are getting rid of land lines. They need to be able to call out.

I see having a cell in the house sure. Kinda silly to NEED one but whatever.
Children don't need them.

But I don't necessarily feel that way. Look at the poor guy who got bashed in the head, robbed, and then run over. We know all the bad stuff that happens. It's not a good feeling.

Come with us to the dance thing. Lose a person for a while when you want to leave and see if you don't want to get in touch with that kid.

Truth is you want your kids to have cell phones because their friends have them and you want to be of similar status. It's a status thing. Not a safety thing. Be honest.
